View Full Version : How many Caddys have you owned? Scrapyard 12-10-03, 07:38 AM I want to see who are the die hards. How many have you owned and what years?
Myself...
In order of purchase:
1985 Fleetwood Coupe
1995 Fleetwood
1959 Coupe Deville
1960 Series 62 Coupe
The first 3 were all garage mates at one point. Made parking real interesting  Especially with 2 bikes a 73 Eldo convertable and an 86 RX7 that were my buddies. The first one to go was the 85, followed soon after by the 59. Last one to go was the 95 back in May and the 60 came home 3 weeks ago. It's a sicknees that hopefuly has no cure :D Lord Cadillac 12-10-03, 07:43 AM 1980 Eldorado (5.7?)
1979 Eldorado Biarritz (368 v8)
1977 or 1978 (I forget!) Sedan DeVille Phaeton (425? v8)
1995 Eldorado Touring Coupe (Northstar)
1995 Fleetwood Brougham (LT1)
I guess it mystified me how people loved my Father's car back in 1985 when he bought a 1980 White Eldorado and had it re-painted and perfected. It looked brand new in and out - and people just swarmed around it. I couldn't understand why at the time but it really was a very nice car.
So in about 1994 I bought my first Cadillac. A 1980 Eldorado. I didn't have enough money to maintain it and sold it soon after. But I loved driving it - even though it was quite old at the time. It was very comfortable and it actually got looks. It was dark blue.
My next Cadillac was a Biarritz. It was also dark blue and THAT car turned heads as well. There aren't many good-condition old Eldorados around anymore.
Next up was a '77 or 78 - jeez, I forget. It wasn't the older style.. It had the Phaeton package. Very powerful! And very smooth driving! I actually raced this car a little because it really moved! I actually wanted a Fleetwood Brougham but I found this for the right price. $300.00 because the driver's side door wouldn't open. A friend fixed it for me. The car was in near mint condition...
Then came the '95 Eldorado ETC. My favorite.. I can't say enough about this car. There's a page dedicated to it just below in my signature...
Now I've got a '95 Fleetwood Brougham - there's also a page to this car in my signature.. I bought this car because I figured it would be inexpensive and very luxurious.. I like big cars and this really fits the bill. I'm really loving this car - but it doesn't turn heads nearly as much as my ETC did.
I drove MANY other cars in-between these.. Mostly Z28s, Formulas and Trans Ams. There's a Vette in there, a Monte Carlo, a couple of Regals, a Riviera (loved that), an old Nova, a Beretta.. Hmm... kcnewell 12-10-03, 07:52 AM '69 Fleetwood

Except for the 1982 Imperial, they were all great cars.
Never had a mer-SAY-deees, Bummer, dis-Lexus, Slob or any other "foreign-matter" ~ Never will, zero desire!! brougham 12-10-03, 12:49 PM My 1991 Brougham D'Elegance with the 5.7L is the only one.
I always liked the big shape of them and the big chrome fins, I also like the styling changes they got over the 80s ones and the 5.7L (4.1L in a car this big? what were they thinking? :bonkers: ) They're the last of the classic style Cadillacs, it gets looks and people fear it's size :D I don't plan on getting out of mine or one like it anytime soon.
I want to get an older Cadillac sometime like a 1959 or 60 or a later 70s Eldorado. Stoneage_Caddy 12-10-03, 02:24 PM 1 caddy deville

1 86 lebaron GTS turbo
1 96 honda civic hx - couldnt stand it after 1 week of ownership ,damn leaky gas tank I have owned two Cadillacs in my lifetime.
The first Cadillac was a 1983 Fleetwood Brougham. It was grey, or blue, depending if you look at it in direct sunlight or in a shadow :) It had a blue cloth top on it. What attracted me to it is that despite of the age, it looked good, had no rust, the headliner inside was not sagging (it was brand new) as I found out later and the engine looked new, too. It had a continental kit in the back when I first saw it. Later as I was going to buy it, somebody has stolen the kit. But that didn't change my purchasing desicion.
When I bought this car, I found out that just about everything that could possibly have been wrong with the car, was. I spent three thousand dollars to purchase a car and another three thousand dollars simply to keep it operable. First thing that went wrong was a heater, and it was winter, granted, a Texas winter, but it was chilly, nonetheless. Then I found out that transmission made a funny sound, especially when going in reverse, it needed to be rebuilt and reconditioned. Then, something was wrong with a steering mechanism, because it was so long ago, in late 90's, I do not remember exactly what, but it thinned my wallet by another three hundred dollars. Then the front tires were starting to show thin metal hairs and another visit to my mechanic, who, by the way, could tell it was me just by the way the phone rang :tongue2: , showed that I need a front end redone. Then every time it rained, the frong passenger seat would get wet. Glass shop said that the seals where the window is touching the car body are old and brittle and leaks water in. Then the power front windows decided not to work. Thank God they decided to quit in the upright position, so at least when it rained, the water would not pour in. Those two things I had not any money to repair, though. But the air conditioner still worked, so during the summer, I was not sweating buckets, but my fuel bills were high as the air conditioner worked full power all the time to cool the hot air inside that could not circulate because of abov mentinoed broken power windows. As I later found out, my engine was not tuned, so I tuned that and it turned out that my plugs badly needed replacement. The check engine light kept coming on all the time because of some electronic gizmo in the motor went bad. Another thorough inspection showed and I needed a new computer, but I didn't have $500 at the time. I also made another stupid mistake (among untold millions I made back when I was much younger  ). I rode my car until it was barely running on gas fumes. My fuel pump did not like that and soon became acting moody, and my Cadillac was starting only whenever it felt like it. At the time, though, I didn't know why. Never ever ride your car on fumes.
Then once I bought some raw chicken from grocery shop and forgot it in my car's trunk. Several weeks later, the smell of the car was unbearable, and it was accidentally that I found out that I forgot chicken in my trunk after I opened it I don't even remember why.
Then I wrecked it. I hit the Chevy truck from behind... and another Nissan truck hit me from behind. That taught me another valueable lesson: never taligate anyone, especially with pouring rain and very poor visibility. The left rear door was jammed and couldn't open as a result. The car was still running, though, it was just slightly redesigned :)
I did put custom stereo in it with speakers. That car taught me a lot about Cadillacs, thought I learned everything the hard way.
And my next Cadillac is my current 1994 Fleetwood Brougham. It, at first, cost me a lot of money, too, but now, everything is taken care of and I maintain my car religiously. If you went in to GMforums.com, back when it existed, I posted that the car would suddenly die in the middle of rush hour traffic. It was a fuel pump, which I how I found out why my 1983 Cadillac was acting up. I will not go into repairs of my 1994 Fleetwood as I want to keep this posting brief. I will just say that most of my visits to the shop were maintenance, not repair issues.
Well, that's my story. I am youger so I haven't owned as many -
1988 Cadillace Devile
2000 Cadillac Deville davesdeville 12-10-03, 05:56 PM Well I'm not sure whether or not I owned the first one, but I'll count it anyway:
75 Sedan DeVille (I really want this car back... droool)
78 Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance (I think it knows that I want to replace it, so it's been breaking things lately so I can't trade it until I fix it, this in turn makes me want to trade it more) Night Wolf 12-10-03, 06:06 PM so far:
1993 Coupe DeVill
happens to be ultra rare...1 of 119 made....
....other plans in my future with Cadillac:
1959 Eldo drop top, full restored.... my all time favorite car
1954 (or arough there) CDV or Eldo... hardtop or conv...after the '59 my 2nd all time favorite car
1977-1989 Brougham with a 500 transplant, and hottrod the hell outta it (Ultra Slow, are you listening? :D)
1995 Fleetwood Brougham.... make it a huge sleeper, but more practical then the above
1996 STS... daily driver
really, I alredy told myself, by the time i pas on, I WILL have the '59, and hoping for the ~'54 as well.... the '77-'89 Brougham seems very much doable as they are pretty cheap.... I would like to use my mothes car (once she decides to sell it) as it is to a very rare car (every extra option, gold package tc..) only thing is, the car has alot of problems, andshe will sell it when it finally dies, so it will have even more by then.... the '96 STS I just love... love everything about it, and I am thinking maybe in the near future (4 years?) I will have one, and let the DeVille take a break)
and yes, I DO plan on keeping my '93 CDV.....forever...for alot of reasons, but this thread is long enough :D Just when I was about to make a ridiculous offer for that Slate-Bronze Coupe deVille, too! Damn :disappoin Night Wolf 12-10-03, 08:37 PM lol....
what was that? a mint, restored '59 Eldo drop top? what? flat trade for the '93?
hell yeah
:D Scrapyard 12-12-03, 08:24 AM Well it's nice to know I'm not the only one with an unhealthy affliction for these things.
Night Wolf,
A man with goals. I like that, lol. Actually, Befor I came across my current ride I was in an all out man hunt for a '56 coupe. I was in a biding war for a 56 Eldo Seville that was in decent shape. Unfortunatley I got sniped out at the last posable second. By almost 3G's mind you. I guess home boy wanted it a littel bit more then I did  HotRodSaint 12-12-03, 08:43 AM My first Cadillac was a low mileage 1967 Coupe De Ville. Talk about getting props everywhere I went. I bought and sold it in the mid-90's.
I test drove a brand new '96 Fleetwood in '96. But I just couldn't justify the $45,000 price tag. Cadillacs tend to depreciate much too fast.
I came across this '96 Fleetwood last December. It had 14,000 miles and was reasonably priced (much less than $45,000). Plus it was a Black on Black Brougham.
I was amazed at the props she got. Even when she was stock.
Eventually, I'd like to add a '60 Convertible to my stable. But I'd settle for any low mileage '50s or '60 convertible. Castronova 12-12-03, 12:56 PM 78 Seville black with white leather interior, miss this one

All Devilles and all but the '90 are still living at my house. The plan is to get back down to one. Three are becomming two which will find new homes. Kimura-sensei 01-19-04, 11:48 PM First learned how to drive in my father's 1983 Seville, brown color, he bought it brand new. I know it went at least 200k miles before he had to junk it.
Bought my first Caddy '84 Fleetwood brough, blue color at 40k miles or so. I think I paid $6-7k back in 92. She's clearly my most favorite caddy. I felt like she was an extension of my body. I love the way she makes a tight corner and weaves through traffic. Sigh... damn shame I had to junk her a few years later.
Bought caddy '89 deville for $5k when I junked my '84. Hated that '89, I can't stand the way it handles the road. I was happy to get rid of her a few years later.
After carless for many years, bought a used '99 deville midnight blue just 6 months go. 40k miles for $15k. I'm somewhat happy with this car. While doesn't handle the road as well as the '84, she makes up for in horsepower.
10 yrs from now, I plan to buy an ol' 83/84 fleetwood and restore it. I miss that car too much. themind 01-20-04, 07:21 AM Let me think . . .

In their own way, the Cimarron and the '89 Seville were nice, good looking cars. All they needed was a little bit more power.
The SDV, on the other hand, was a major disappointment. I have driven Buicks and Olds that were more luxurious and drove-rode better.
My '99 SLS is a black-on-black, fun, kick-ass car. Looks like the kind of car that Darth Vader (one of my movie "heroes") would drive. Even with the "smaller" 275 HP Northstar engine, the car can still haul ass.:lildevil:

Oh and after i was born my parents brought me home from the hospital in my mom's '85 SDV
I have a friend in his 60s but it seems that hes in his 40s, hes just a big kid, but hes been driving caddys since he was 20, and he rarely keeps a car more than 2 years, most of the time he trades in only a few months! He is constantly telling stories about the caddys that he has owned and its impossible for me to remember them, all. Recently he sat down and compiled a list of all the cadillacs that he, his family and his friends have owned in the past, and he counted over 150.. incredible. It all started with a 1969 Coupe Deville when I was in college...

Whew! davesdeville 06-20-05, 03:06 PM 73 Eldorado, you are a crazy rich guy who buys a bunch of Caddys... adopt me before I turn 18!

75 Sedan DeVille (I really want this car back... droool)
78 Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance (I think it knows that I want to replace it, so it's been breaking things lately so I can't trade it until I fix it, this in turn makes me want to trade it more)
Well since this forever ago thread I got me a 95 ETC and the 78 finally kicked the can. In about 10 years I'll probably buy an 07 or so STS-V. 73Eldorado 06-20-05, 06:19 PM LOL! Not rich by any means!! Those cars were all bought over a space of 25 years, some I literally had for only a few weeks!! My Cadillac fever started when I was four years old, My Grandmother bought a beautiful 1962 Fleetwood Sixty Special and I was smitten with that car! I vowed to own a Cadillac when I grew up and my first car was a '73 Eldorado my Mom bought me for my 16th birthday in 1979. She asked me what kind of car I wanted and I said it had to be a Cadillac! I spent a week looking and I found her,she was Saturn Bronze Firemist with a tan top and saddle leather with 26,000 miles, she was gorgeous!!! $2000! Just 2, but I still have them both:
1990 Eldorado
1998 Eldorado Touring Coupe
Love em both no matter how much they cost me :) AmesCTS-V 06-22-05, 02:54 PM None, but I decided I needed a daily driver with the power to match my 04 GTO so I'm about to get my first Caddy. powerglide 06-22-05, 03:44 PM Just 2...

That Sixty is legendary round here, and the Mary Kay struck a certain chord with me, i like unusual cars, in unusual colours, i had a Pineapple Yellow Vauxhall Astra Sport. It was unusual, as are all of my cadillacs.
Your Sixty is something else, how dedicated to looking after your car can you get? Thats the kind of car i like used  cadillacman01201 09-27-05, 03:40 AM The first was a 1960 SDV, it was like driving your livingroom down thw road.

That's it. gdwriter 09-29-05, 02:43 PM Cruella, my '91 Sedan de Ville is my first Cadillac, but I've always had a soft spot for them, particularly early 60s models with fins, the first FWD Eldorado and the original Seville.
Once I'm back on my feet financially, I may look at a 98-2004 STS. Love the new STS, but it'll be a while before that's in my price range. Or the 2006 DTS. 1994 Sedan Deville sjpi1954 12-13-05, 05:58 PM Evenin' Scrapyard,
I figured you could use a little humor on this question so here goes. I joined this forum about 3 months ago in order to learn as much as possible about Cadillacs. Smart move. What started me in the search for either a new or a pre-owned Cadillac was my lower back. Go figure.
My wife Jaana was taking here RN State Boards in Mobile, AL, and I had about 6-7 hours to kill. Low and behold the Caddy Dealer was across the I-65 and thats where I ended up test driving 3 used CTSs', 2 new CTSs', and then my lower back started acting up. As I was heading in for a coffee break I asked the saleslady why that CTS looked like it was on steroids.
JP, meet the new STS. Nice rod. 1.5 hours later and 57 miles on the clock I got out of that car and my lower back actually felt better. That has NEVER happened to me before....not in a car, a truck, an airplane, a helicopter, or a motorcycle.
So began an intense quest to find out all I could about adaptive seat technology...standard equipment in the '03 and later Cadillac Sevilles, an option pre-'03. 10 beautiful bladders made by the Die Electric Corporation and designed to minimize lower back and leg fatigue and stress automatically. Initial reading 30-60 seconds after the key is turned on and auto adjust every 3-4 minutes later based on your position in the seat. I love it. Gotta have it. IF the seat has the lumbar massage even better.
Over the past three months I have legally bought, on eBay, 3 Cadillac Seville STSs', and not one is in my garage. I have test driven 17 STSs' and SLSs combined. Some with the adaptive seat option and some without. My back always knows. Cadillac Customer Service has been immensely helpful in running build sheet stuff for me off of the RPO codes. So, what has happened on eBay. Simple. NONE of the 3 Cadillacs were as advertised. I'm not talking about a scratch that wasn't advertised.
I'm talking about outright lying, cheating, and gross deception. The good news is that I was reimbursed 100% for my R/T Air Fare to both Atlanta and Richmond. I had amicable settlements with two of the dealerships and the first one got ugly...coyote ugly and I ended up with an eBay strike.
My local Pensacola Cadillac Dealership got in an '03 SLS that was Certified and I rode the Harley down to test drive it, and if everything shook out, I had my sight draft to buy it if the deal was right. The '03 was out doing a ferry trip when I arrived so I killed some time test driving a Deville, my first, and then everything went to hell.
Another retired military aviator pulled up in a 99 STS and we immediately hit it off. Both wearing the leather bomber jackets with the squadron patches and talking flying. Next thing you know I'm test driving his 99 STS and it hurts my lower back and has the Seville Shakes at 65+++ so we go back to the Dealership.
The Used Car Sales Manager comes over, frothing at the mouth like a Rottweiler ready for blood and evicts me from the Dealership for 'sabotoging a potential sale' and 'forbids me from ever coming back'. What he did not know was that the 99 STS Navy Commander was waiting to take his grandson to lunch and he was also just killin' time. Go figure.
So, I mount up on the '99 FXDX and ride off into the sunset with my bank sight draft and no SLS with the Adaptive Seat package. I guess they can afford to evict people here in Pensacola. I wrote Gregg Whibbs a letter but I haven't received a reply. Thought he might want to know the 'Rest of the Story'.
I am currently bidding on another '03 SLS on eBay that is fully covered under warranty and shows pretty well. If I crash and burn on this one I think I'll start taking Prozac and drinking Miller Lite.
How many Cadillacs have I owned? Legally 3...Physically 0.
No guts No glory, Never give up Never surrender,
JP

CW4, USA-Ret. powerglide 12-13-05, 07:26 PM Boy Stephen, you've been through alot to find the right car.
I'm sure it will be worth the wait!
I had no idea the adaptive seat thing would make such a huge difference, I figured it was more of a sales gimmick....thanks for the report!
Too bad you've wasted so much on eBay.....I bought mine on eBay and drove off without a problem (well the dealer gave me the wrong remote but I took care of that by mail)
I'd like to hear more about what happened on that one transaction that turned 'coyote ugly'!
A belated welcome to the forums! :welcome:

Dave caddeville 12-30-05, 02:43 AM I own an 87 deville. It will be the best u'll ever see once its done july 2006, beside the gold plated 87 deville. I've also got the most powerfull HT4100 u'll ever drive, u'd swear it is a 4.5 PFI, accelerates pretty damn fast. It has 94,000 miles and runs absolutly perfect with MSD everything including the 6a ignition, flowmaster exhaust with magnaflow cat, and new intake. I drove it a couple times on the road at night with my dad beside me and i always cruise around the shop. I've been driving since i was 10 and learned stick wen i was 11. We drive it to the shop and back on weekends. My dad has an 87 deville also with 170,000 miles on original engine and tranny, it just needs engine mounts, but thats just wasted money. We were 1 1/2 hours late to the airport for my uncle and my dad drove the shit out of that thing, it sounded like a BMW. I thought the engine was going to blow up, but it sounded SWEET!!! We passed a riced up honda and he wanted to race. The rpms were garaunteed to be maxed out, but it held up, with 170,000 miles! Thats one solid engine!!
Me = 1 1987 deville (94,000miles)
Dad = (current) 1987 deville (170,000miles)
(9 years ago) 1985 deville (75,000miles, engine was P.O.S, ran when it wanted to) Here is my list:
'77 Sedan DeVille
'77 Sedan DeVille
'64 Coupe DeVille
'70 Eldorado
'70 Eldorado
2003 CTS
I still have the last '70 Eldorado. Patrick7997 01-29-06, 04:53 PM 1979 Eldorado, Yellow with yellow leather, factory fuel injection 350. Bought it for a winter car, but liked it a lot.... definitely started the ball rolling.
1990 Eldorado, white with black leather. Real nice car. 4.5 Liter. An underrated Cadillac example. Drove super nice. A little small, but it had a very heavy solid feel on the road.
1992 Eldorado blue with blue leather. 4.9 liter. I had actually gone to a dealership to buy a 1994 ETC, but they sold it, and then had this one, a steal. Couldn't resist. Was a great car.
1997 Eldorado Touring Coupe. Northstar 300HP. Pearl white with black leather. Black cloth top. Super nice. Been 6 months now, amazing. I am very pleased with it. Car is a dream.
It looks like I'll have to keep this one nice, since they quit making them... what a loss to civilization. Unless they come to their senses and come out with an Eldorado again.... Katshot 01-29-06, 08:04 PM I can't believe I never posted in this thread! Okay, let me see.....
