: "check oil level"

I get this message pretty much every time i start my car up.... only thing is the oil is almost to max on the dip stick. I think the sensor is bad... where is it? Is it hard to replace? Is it expensive? and do i need ot drai the oil to replace i?

The oil level sensor screws into the side of the oil pan. You will need to drain the oil to replace it, so do it during your next oil change. On my 96 Concours, the sensor was right next to and just above the oil filter. It has an electrical connector hooked up to it that is not easy to remove, but it's possible. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to remove the connector, but it would be a lot quicker if I had to do it again. The part itself should run about $25-$30.

The reason mine was bad was because the little round cylinder on the end of the sensor fell off or melted and dropped into my oil pan.
