Very strange.... my Limp mode came on last night. Just FYI if this happens to you, your car barely runs. Pull over quick because you have little power to get out of the way of anything.

Not sure why it came on. I've had the engine light come on twice over the last few weeks, the 2 NEW things I have done is the Stealth Tune and the Lingenfelter CAI. Once I pulled over into a parking lot, turned the car off and yes.... the filter was off again. I put it on as best I could for the straight drive home. Once I started the car is was out of limp mode but engine light is on.

First off... that damn lingenfelter CAI might be coming off, I just can't keep the POS cone filter atttached. It keeps popping off.:banghead: (I'm going out to the bat cave today to losen every connector and start over.... one last time to get it on their solid. If it comes off again, back to the stock box with just the Stealth tube.

All I can think of is 2 things:
1. That damn cone filter causes too lean of a situation and the engine light has come one (it has gone off after a day or so both times)

2. Maybe the Stealth tune is a bit lean for us CA 91 octane folks. I do get some pinging sometimes with the tune, I'm going to call or email Stealth about it.
(disclaimer: Stealth ROCKS, his products are great. this could have nothing to do with my "Limp mode")

Thoughts?

I had the same problem with stock Mag snorkle and straight hose to MAF sensor, under high torque I found it had pulled away from the MAF, so I bought a hump hose. Straight hose looks cleaner but is a poor design.

The same thing happened to me when the maf sensor plug came off when I had the lingenfelter CAI installed. I installed my Stealth Power Tune about a week ago and no problems at all!

The first time I installed the LPE CAI I did it incorrectly and it separated. I didn't take the rubber grommet off of the MAF piece. Triggered the check engine light but never "limp mode". Second time installed correctly with my custom TB to MAF pipe and no issues at all. Also no issues with the Stealth Tune. As a matter of fact I have the second tune on the way now.

Take the tube going between the throttle body and the MAF off. Then squirm and wiggle the LPE filter onto the cheesy metal tube. Once it is all clamped down, reattach the tube to the throttle body.

If one has had a K&N filter on for a while, cleaning the MAF with some aerosol electrical contact cleaner would be a good thing.

Limp mode can sometimes be reset (if turning the key off and on doesn't help) by turning the key off, wait a moment, then hold the gas pedal to the floor and attempt to restart. It shouldn't restart. Turn the key off and wait a moment longer (30 seconds). Now when you restart likely the limp mode is gone and so is the check engine light.

Can't explain the why or how - but this has happened to me a time or two. Error code unknown (one time it was something to do with the TPS).

Yes, in limp mode you are screwed. It isn't a true limp mode, more of a park the car mode and call a tow truck.

I second this. I keep a flat blade screwdriver, and can of WD40 in my spare tire well, to clean the MAF when a glob of filter oil inevitably gets sucked into and clogs up the MAF.

In a nutshell, if your 'check engine' light comes on. Call Onstar, and see if they detect any codes. If they don't and you have a CAI installed, pull off the MAF to TB hose, and spray it with the cleaner/WD40, let it evaporate out, and then reconnect. A bag of donuts says your light goes off.

Edit: This has only happend to me once.
