: Fender panel noises

Has anyone else noticed the squeaks and noise when washing the V and you push on the ground effects or lower portions of the body? They seem to be held on with push pins and just don't feel tight. Sometimes I get the noise just from backing up slowly and braking. I was washing the car and could not help but wonder if you get this kind of low quality feel from Lexus or MB - not that I'd consider anything but American for my ride.

Does Cadillac actually take note of these forums or are we just bitching to each other? The V is SO close to being outstanding - unfortunately it's the small details that make or break the impression of quality.:tisk:

I haven't heard anything like that on my V. Does it happen all over your exterior, or just in one or two spots? It may just be a problem with your particular vehicle.

The side skirts ARE held on with clips and push pins. Other than bolts that hold it to the leading 8" of the fenders, the front bumper is also held on with push pins, as is the grill, lower air dam, and the plastic belly pan under the engine. There will definitely be movement when you push gently on them.

Yeah, movement is one thing, but I don't get the squeaks that Zip is complaining about.

Yeah, you guys are on the money - it's like the whole lower areas are push pinned on. I thought it may be to allow the front bumper to collapse on impact but it's the side skirts to.

If I push on the skirts, I get a creaking noise like shutting a door with a rusty hinge. I tried to spray a little silicon to stop it but it didn't help. Can't really get to the back side.

But you guys are saying the movement is normal right? At least I'll feel a little better if that's the case. The grille is the same way - no noise unless you tap it - then movement is evident.

I retired by 91 Stealth with only 70K miles on it and now drive the V. I love it but never had any such issues with the Stealth.

my front and rear fascia squeak during washings when they are pushed or touched hard. I don't hear it while driving and therefore I don't care. If it bothered me I would go nuts with a can of silicone spray at the attachment points and the seam.

You should hear the noises it make when u pick it up on a flat rack. Where I work they make all kinds of noises but it's ok. I worked on a convertible eldorado today, and tha doors wouldn';t open when I had it up in the air b/c of the body flex.

Thanks much for you insight gent's - I feel much better about it. I'm starting to think the noise I hear is related to the clutch or brakes since I noticed I can make it happen in the morning by moving slowing and pushing the brakes or slowly engaging the clutch - sounds like the creaking noise is coming from somewhere in the rear.

I'm hoping it's just a noise when the car is cold - maybe beacause it's still so tight (only have 2,000 miles).

Much obliged for your input.

I baby the piss out of the car - one day I may even try to see what this wheel hop is you all speak about - but I doubt it.
