View Full Version : Kung Fu Hustle MrSmith 10-30-05, 08:59 PM I get this notice that says
DVD Shrink encountered an error and not continue.
failed to read file "E\:"
data error (Cyclic redundancy check)
does anyone know what this is?? MacKiNBacK 10-30-05, 09:03 PM I got that data error (cyclic redundancy check) when copying stuff from a dvdr my buddy made... Ended up using my other drive (which was a different brand), it worked! My fix for it was to use that drive it worked on to re-burn it to another dvdr. The original would not work on my laptop but the new copy did. Not exactly sure why though.

This is a fancy technical term which means your computer is telling you (in laymans terms): "This is one f*cked up CD, how do you expect me to copy this piece of sh*t!?" The other day I was on a site (the quest for Karen Mulder pics continues) and it seemed to jam and I was concerned it was loading spyware onto my computer. "Control/Alt/Delete" wouldn't work wither, so I quickly unplugged the computer, waited a minute and then rebooted. Then it did something I've never seen, it did some sort of check on 3 different things regardng "discs." It ran up from 0 to 100% 3 times for 3 different checks. Maybe it was because I just unplugged it w/o shutting it off properly but I've done that before w/o this happening.
I don't know if that's related to what you experienced, but it was similar perhaps to yours...I guess it was just checking the harddrive.. terrible one 10-31-05, 12:10 AM The other day I was on a site (the quest for Karen Mulder pics continues) and it seemed to jam and I was concerned it was loading spyware onto my computer. Was it a blue screen that said CHKDSK?
Windows runs CHKDSK (Check disk) whenever the computer is shut down via pulling the plug, holding the power button, etc. It is simply a program made to make sure that there is no harm done to your hard drive (mainly boot files and Windows files) Was it a blue screen that said CHKDSK?

Ahhh, I can't remember dude......and I know what you're talking about when you unplug it. No it just ran 3 different disk scans for errors or something, and after that I ran spybot, ad-aware and norton and it found a "Hitbox" and an "Avenue A" spyware, so I deleted them with Spybot. Spyware is a nasty thing, it will sit in your computer, wreak havoc and strike when you least expect it and jam up things. Anytime you even suspect it from a strange site I recomment running a few scans immediately.....;) terrible one 10-31-05, 12:27 AM Yes I agree. Been working with computers long enough to know a lot of these programs. Avenue A is a bit of a nuisance, might want to scan again to make sure it didn't come back. Yes I agree. I will, thanks bud! Boombotz 10-31-05, 12:30 AM Ahhh, I can't remember dude......and I know what you're talking about when you unplug it. This is normal when you turn off the computer with a improper shut down. It is windows scanning all drives and disc's for errors and it tells you improper shutdown detected. I know, I've seen where it does THAT, but I've never seen it where it runs 3 seperate scans in percentages, and then re-boots. I think it simply found errors because of the spyware I had to remove. Plus the fact that the computer completely jammed right before. It was not a normal boot-up after unplugging, but I know what you mean. Spyware is evil...the inventors and/or programmers should be drug out into the street and shot...have reformated my darned hard drive because I couldn't get rid of it all...!
