If your choices were the Audi A4 1.8T Cabriolet, the BMW 325Ci Convertible, or the Saab 9-3 Linear Convertible? One of my teachers was thinking about getting an Audi A4 convertible, but she wanted to know what I thought about it (seeing as how I'm pretty smart when it comes to cars)...But European convertibles aren't quite my thing, so maybe you guys can help???

BMW if she wants a below par piece of junk (these things are OLD now)

Audi if she wants to be subtle and understated.

SAAB if she likes to be different, and quirky.

The best car there is the Audi, but i wouldnt rule out the SAAB, it is also a great car.

The BMW is outdated, and effectively, she would be buying a new-old model. The car was poor in crash test because it was designed in 1997, and has only recieved minor changes since.

The only reason people are still buying the BMW is because it is a status symbol greater than Audi and Saab. Also, how about a Mercedes CLK? They are reasonably good, but the Audi is still a better car.

Advise her to get the Audi, with that 1.8Turbo engine too :)

I've read in many places that Audi A-4's have a poor reliability record. I've heard about this a lot in the 97-00 1.8T's but maybe they are more reliable now.

The entry-level Audis we get in the USA are Mexican-made garbage, and the 1.8 loves to build up sludge.

The 9-3 is a solid choice, but the BMW has the best driving dynamics. I like to be different, so I'd go with the 9-3.

I forgot, most of the supplies of US destined VW group cars are built in Mexico

Scrap Audi.

Saab is the best one there :D

SAAB #1, but I'd kick it up a notch to the AERO 9.3
Then the under powered A4 1.8
in 3rd place, a skateboard
4th BMW

Really? Are they THAT bad? I know they've had reliability issues, but the Audis look so nice, and the Saabs well, are pretty ugly. Are there any other convertibles (from any car company) that you would recommend that are in the 30k to 40k price range??? There are no Saab dealers in Arkansas, so that kinda rules them out...

Thanks guys!

How much does the Volvo C70 cost?

I cant find any prices on the website, the new CC model isnt out yet, but there should still be some 2005 models floating around at dealers.

The V70 is $29995 starting, so i would expect the convertible to be about $37000

There's always the idea of a fully optioned and modified Mustang.

Remember:

Roughly how old is she Ben?

Teachers seem to like awful cars, so I guess the Audi A4 comes back into focus.

As an Allante owner I would only recommend one as a recreational vehicle, not a daily driver.

LOL

Yeah, my wife has taken a few bad ones in her time

Rover 214i was the worst i think

My sister kept it running until recently when it died of a blown head gasket at 137,000 miles :D

Theres a photo from about three months ago. It was ready to be taken away when that photo was taken

They dont get much worse than that

Teachers have terrible taste

She is probably in her lates 40s to 50s, shes white, and shes a french teacher (i have her for study hall though). She's a pretty cool lady, very international-like (which is why I think she like European cars, she may have had one before, I'm really not sure...)

It came up because I was telling everyone all of the brands GM has under their division because people were confused over who owned what. I got a few, "There's no way that FORD could own JAGUAR or ASTON MARTIN, no way!" So I had to clear a lot up. And we were talking about Audi because of the A8 that was in the Transporter 2 and she said she was thinking about getting and Audi, and she was looking at convertibles, etc.

Advise her to get the SAAB

Taking into account the amount of Mexican built Audis on US roads...

1. Saab 9-3 Aero (better than Linear)
2. Audi A4 1.8T
3. Bus pass
4. Walking
5 BMW 325Ci

How about a Chrysler Sebring Limited ? They are really nice, (providing you get the LTD). She can get a super loaded one for $33,000. It's a really nice car & seats 4 very comfortably !

Uh, Sandy, thats a MOPAR:suspense: And quite possibly the most played out convertible of all time. A Sebring? Yeah right.;)

But guys, keep in mind we DONT have a Saab dealership, so I'm thinking its down to the Audi or the BMW, right?

It depends on the year and options....

I think the audi looks the best.
BMW drives the best.
SAAB is the 'other white meat'

Tough choice, I may go with the audi.....the SAAB is hot too

......dont forget CLK, MINI, VW, all nice lookin and unreliable but european!
