I am sure they will negotiate something in the middle, but the flip side is -- how much does unemployment pay?? If they strike, what is the strike pay worth?? I am guessing less than the $9.50/unskilled labor.

It is a bad situation to be in but the reality is that unskilled labor is just that.

Here's an idea that Unions NEVER mention - if you don't like the conditions, don't work there.

This isn't good. I know Delphi is in trouble and needs to get a handle on things financially, so I can't really fault them as far as that goes, but..

What do you suppose will happen to GM if they strike? Man this is gonna suck. I see HUGE interruptions in product due to lack of parts availability and at a time when when they can least afford to have the flow of product halted. Also, what effect this may have on recall work in progress on all the 1st and 2nd year new models that Cadillac (and other GM brands) have if Delphi is supplying parts required for recalls.

I don't know, I have a bad feeling about where this is headed at a time when things are already a bit shakey.

Yeah, it can't be good.
Its tough enough competeting in the international market without having to fight with your domestic suppliers and union!

When Boeing Wichita was bought by Onex in Canada. Onex offered a 10% wage cut to IAM workers. They said they were already over the national average by 13%. It was a "take it or leave it deal". No negotiations.

This day in 1949, Harry Truman raised the minimum wage from $0.40 to $0.74 per hour!

If UAW employees strike, GM should move their plants down South like Hyundai, BMW, and MB do. Arkansas could use an auto plant or two, and our people wouldn't gripe about not getting $9.50 an hour:rant2: They'd be happy to make $6 with NO benefits, because at least they'd have a job...
