I have seen this topic multiple times, but what is the official way to eliminate the "clunking" noise when parading? I have been told new clutch, drive shaft, etc..

Also, will getting a new shifter (UCC) really make the shifting between gears much s moother?

thx:annoyed:

Check the TSBs; GM considers the parade clunk normal. The UUC shifter is a nice mod, it will shorten your throws about 30%.

Have the dealer make sure all the bolts on the rear cradle and diff mounts are tight and torqued to factory spec. Almost every time I take my V in they check these bolts and at least one is loose somehow. Eliminates the clunk almost completely.

If every thing is tight on the rear dif and it sounds like it is coming near the firewall, that is normal. It also usually happens under light acceleration when you shift. Rear end clunking due to loose bolts will happen everytime you accel or decel.

As others have already said, parade clunk is normal... You still might want to take a look at the front differential bushing. We've had a few come in that had that bushing worn out, replacing it helped with the clunking...

Definately a much needed improvement over the stock shifter...
