View Full Version : Really bad night. V-seriesTech 10-13-05, 10:18 AM First off...had a rough past weekend, one that I don't want to relive, ever.
LAST night, last minute,..we decided to go to the track... we did. My first pass... felt horrible but,..my time slip says 9.09 @ 112mph. No, my car doesn't run even close to nines,..so,..weird stuff was happening.
I did get a near perfect reaction time,,...007 but, my 60ft's were way off. like 2.4 60ft. I usually go 2.0 on the same EMT's. anyways, my car went a slow 12.9(i've gone 12.58 on less power) @ 116mph very traction limited. Coudln't get ANY better.
My friend Marco,...now with the C6 vette, was not haveing the greatest night either. after several passes.... he attempted to make a pass,....and GRENADED his rear differential like noone has ever seen before. It blew off the entire rear half of the caseing.
crazy.
Then we trailered it, to a close by gas station.
Waited about 2 hours for a two truck. Now, 2:30 am... finally tow truck comes...(we have an hour drive home)
...This is where it gets really bad. :crying2:
We go through the toll booth,...and not more then one mile out of the booth,...I see a dissabled SUV JIMMY in the middle of the road.
It was a rollover.
I was the first to walk up, which I came up on the passenger side. Two girls, one wide awake, and screaming for us to help her, and her friend. I looked in, and down through the passenger window,...her friend was there,....hurt like I have never seen anyone hurt before.
She was shakeing,...non responsive. Both girls, covered in blood. I called 911 asap. Which took about 15 minutes(seemed like forever)
Next minutes, marco, and myself, as well as our tow truck driver tried to calm this girl down.
...but,..it was chaotic.
debree scattered everywhere. purses everywhere. there was a WAD of money,....I handed it to the driver... I put the purses inside the car.
I felt soo bad for the two,...she was soo desperatly trying to get her friend to respond,..and she was just shakeing.
lost for words.
Aside from trying to talk to these girls, we were on a crest, or rise in the road, so,... cars were coming up fast...so we were trying to get them to slow down. Several tractor trailers locked up the brake for a second....several cars came swerving threw the middle of us. It was crazy.
Finally,...after hearing this girl cry to us for help for seemingly forever....the parameds came. They used the jaws of life for the passenger.
It didn't look good. It's a shame,..two BEAUTIFUL girls...about 19-22
Most helpless time of my life.
I hope she made it. HDMLNIUM 10-13-05, 10:31 AM Wow, Jamie...
That is a sad story right from the begining and all the way to the end. I hope the girls pull through ok and if you find out, post it..
It also sucks about Marco's Vette, time for un upgraded diff in that thing I would think..:yup:
Bill Jamie....all I can say is WOW!!!
Let's all say a little prayer for the girls.
(The diff is a minor inconvenience in comparison to the accident you helped out with.)

Thanks Bill. It really does suck. The girl...and her motions, I don't even know how to describe.
Marco's problem, is already solved,..and will be complete quick. No charge to him. Car has 4700 miles.
I just hope the girl is alright. V-seriesTech 10-13-05, 11:14 AM Jamie....all I can say is WOW!!!

Thanks Jim. Wow....is how I felt when I walked to the passenger side window, and already knew the driver was there but, hadn't yet seen the passenger, or even knew one was there. Until I looked down, and she was half way hanging off the seat, in between the two seats, and halfway in the back. blood everywhere... she was shakeing pretty bad. The driver,..Vanessa...was tweaking out trying to get her friend to respond. I don't blame her. Soo sad bro.
Marco and I were a little tweaked on the ride home. V-seriesTech 10-13-05, 11:15 AM Did you get their #'s?
......girls were perfect looking. Perfect.
...but no dickhead,..I didn't. Dave's V 10-13-05, 11:28 AM That can be a traumatic experience to witness. The Corvette's rear end seems so minor. Maybe you can ask the police about their status. True. I really would like to know. I just don't think they would release information to a non family member. It was FHP(florida highway patrol)....
.....I dunno what to do. I really want to know what happened to her though. Such a shame. oh shit....thats something that will be with you for awhile....our prayers are with them...:( wildwhl 10-13-05, 11:55 AM Jamie -
I feel for you. Last summer I came upon two head on collissions (witnessed one) on two consecutive weekends. It is truly a helpless feeling not knowing how or what to do for the people trapped inside the wreck.
You did the right thing by stopping and helping divert traffic, calm the coherent and contacting emergency med services. You made a difference - trust me.

thanks dude.
Thanks to marco,..and the tow truck driver,..we diverted some serious possible wrecks. It was REALLy crazy man. Really crazy when your trying to stop a SEMI barreling down on you,...with a mere flashlight and a flare.
I hope we helped...I still felt helpless man.
I have some EMT training(was almost a firefighter)....but still...helpless.
:( Not only are you our knight in shinning armor, but you help the chicks! So brave. I thought this was going to turn into another hogh speed run followed by a stint in lock up. atleast you are your boy are ok. The high speed lock up,..happened last week. :(
I can't get that girl out of my mind..... The drivers voice haunts me man. Over and over and over again she was asking for help,....and to help her friend....... like a bad dream. dammit man. ylwjacket 10-13-05, 02:57 PM Unfortunately, I've been first on scene like that a couple of times. A couple times not so bad, one real bad, and one astonishingly bad. I'll save the stories for another day, but for now, I'll just say you guys did the right thing, and not only likely saved the 2 girls, but probably others who may have plowed into them. That could have gotten much worse, I'm sure, if not for guys helping out.
The voice fades, but you don't really ever forget it. Let's hope they came out of it OK, and you find out that they came out of it OK. You may never know, but you have to know that at least you didn't drive on by, like many people would do. And, those girls will live on to tell their kids about this horrible wreck they were in, and how these three dudes saved their lives. V-seriesTech 10-13-05, 03:11 PM Unfortunately, I've been first on scene like that a couple of times. I don't know how parameds do it, everyday,..and don't get attached. Thanks for the uplifting bro,...but I really don't think the passenger is going to make it. She looked pretty lifeless,...when they were takeing her away but, she was alive.
Anyways,..sorry for the downer everyone. Just some really crazy, sureal moment.
Everyone take care,...wear your belts,..

You would be surprised. Though we are fragile, we're capable of incredible things. A 10 year old girl in our softball league was in a bad wreck about a year ago. She and her sister (age 12) were both lost and resuscitated on-site. The older one was in the hospital for a few days with a craked skull and pelvis fracture. SHe has revovered fully. The younger one had the above, plus broken legs. She was in a coma for 6 months, the first 2 of which were medically induced. No overnight miracle recovery, but she did awaken, and has had to learn how to read, write, and talk all over again. She has made great strides, and will recover to move on.
So, her recovery may not be easy, but human spirit, medical technology, and faith can accomplish modern day miracles. V-seriesTech 10-13-05, 03:47 PM You would be surprised. Truly hope so in this case man,..It would be a waste. Florian 10-13-05, 05:17 PM You will remember that the rest of your life. You did the best you could and were an honest person to boot. Nice job, Jamie.

Marco is trying to call the highway patrol now,...to see if they will release any info to us. I gotta know man. Good or bad, I gotta know. addison_ii 10-13-05, 06:12 PM You are a Good Samaritan. I'll be saying a prayer for those girls. Hopefully they pulled through. I've have seen some horrible things in my life and they tend to stick in your memory. Not that you did it for this but, you will be blessed because of your selfless act to help. BeastMaster 10-13-05, 06:47 PM Unfortunately, I've been first on scene like that a couple of times. The voices will fade until you have a 19-20 year old and then you will remember and pray it never happens to your kids - I know I've been there. An then you'll pray that if it does happen, somebody will stop and help. great going Jamie. Pengineer91 10-13-05, 07:43 PM Please take some solace in the fact that you were there, you reacted, and you probably saved lives.
I can imagine a converstation among the families of those two young ladies:
" ...there were a couple of guys in a car and a tow truck. I hear they were the first ones there. The cop said they were the ones to call 911. They slowed the traffic so nobody else would get hurt, and they did what they could to help and comfort my daughter. I wish I knew their names. I want to thank them..."
A prayer for them, absolutely. But a prayer (of thanks) to you as well. J,
Without going in to too much detail, I have dealt with victims of such severe trauma in my work. From what you describe, I can assure you that there was nothing else you could have done. Nothing you should have done diffrently.
Diverting traffic was very important.
Bill AznPrydeRegalRyde 10-13-05, 08:35 PM Hey, Jamie right? I had a similar thing happen about 5 years ago. I was the driver tho, and had just had a head-on with a 1tonne pickup. I don't remember alot, but I do remember my passenger screaming and alot of confusion. Another friend was in the back, unhurt while I was apparently in and out of consciousness upfront. I only suffered a concussion and a few broken ribs, etc. My passenger died from his injuries the next day. The point is that it was in traffic, and people stopped to help us out, and like yourself, put their lives on the line. I still find it hard to talk about it in person (online is alot easier sometimes eh?), BUT I still also talk to the first person on the scene, every year at Christmas, and our familes send some gifts and stuff. I don't know if the Police will release info yet or not, but you can get somewhere with it, just let them know you were on the scene and helped as best you could. I hope for the girls speedy recovery, and hope you can let things go in your mind.
You may never know how you helped, but rest assured that you DID. Trust me. VST,
You helped those in need. I'm a firm believer in karma and know that what you did to help will be repaid to you in some way. I have a quick story with a twist.
I was 19 and traveling to Clearwater beach to do what 19 year olds do (get drunk and chase women). I noticed smoke coming from behind a Winn Dixie. I drove behind the store to find a car engulfed in flames having struck a dumpster, with a young woman coughing inside barely concious. Without thinking I ran to the car, flung open the door and pulled her out while she protested "I want to die!" She was VERY drunk (slurred speach and wreaked of liquor) She then screamed that her baby was in the car. By now the car is totally in flames and try as I might I can't force my body through the flames back into the car. I'm devistated.
The fire department arrives shortly after to douse the flames. I explain to them that the women was screaming save my baby, etc. The passenger compartment is charred but you can plainly see there was no baby inside. She tells them to check the trunk. Sure enough, the trunk is opened and there's a baby seat face down in the trunk. As the EMT lifts the baby seat you can clearly see two feet hanging from the car seat, they aren't moving. I'm ready to kill this woman who I've just save myself. The EMT then yells it's a doll. It's a f******g doll!
That isn't even the best part. I'm now wrestling with a range of emotions I have experienced since. One of the Firemen walks over to where I'm standing and asks, "did you pull her from the car?" I answered yes. He replies "you're damned lucky." Lucky? I questioned. He replies "yah, she was sitting on 50,000 volts. Your lucky you didn't get fried". You see she had struck a ground mounted transformer and not a dumpster as I had first thought. Sparks from the transformer ignited her car and all I saw was green metal crushed under her car.
Someone was watching over me that day. rand49er 10-13-05, 10:04 PM Well, Jamie, it sure puts a blown differential in its place ... and, that's nothing compared to what those poor girls are going through. Puts things in perspective all right. Everything happens for a reason. Just like it's happened to me, it makes you mature just a bit when you see something like that. I've been there, too. Good job on the seen, BTW. May God be with them. wildwhl 10-14-05, 12:51 AM Jamie -
Think of it this way.
You stopped.
How many cars did you flag by that did not?
Trust me. You'll slow down. You'll watch. And you care. That means a shiatload to the rest of us (Corvette driver or not).
I hope all turns out well - but YOU did the BEST that YOU could do. V-seriesTech 10-14-05, 09:11 AM Hey everyone,..thanks, thanks alot. I read all your posts,...one gave me the chills. marco did call FHP but, at that time, they had no information. I've been glued to the internet last night, something I never do at home,...trying to find a story about a rollover,...with two girls. Nothing. Driveing me mad I tell you.
Ironic but, I was going to call me X girlfriend, who is an ER nurse, not 15 minutes after I decided to call her, she called me. Ironic..Anyways, I described everything,...she told me there was nothing else I/we could have done. She said she would have done the same if she was there. Still....
quick story... (three years back).at my apartment,...we were chillin out playing some PS2. I heard screaming...so I ran outside, followed the screams...I thought a woman was getting beaten. I ran faster. There was a door, open on the upsatairs apartment. I climbed the stairs, looked into the doorway, and here is the mother, who doesn't speak any english, nealing over her soaking wet baby,...that was an infant(she had only one tooth in her mouth, so not sure of the age). Her body was wet, and pale white,..her face,...was dark purple. Wow. chills thinking of this. anyways,..I ran inside the house, dropped to my knees, where the baby was, and picked her up, on her side,..and tried to get her breathing. The mother, freaking out, was shakeing me,..and the baby. actually punching me in my chest and shoulders. then she would get up and run around,...like she was going crazy. I don't blame her,..it was a crazy moment, so I understand.
Anyways,..after less then a minute,..the little baby girl, her name was Iah(like I AHH) I don't know how you spell it...anyways,...she puked up some water,...alot of water...all over me...it was a relief.... but she kept fadeing, and her eyes would roll back into her head...and she would fade away... in and out. It was NUTS. really nuts. Finally, I was able to keep her awake...for 8 to 10 minutes, until the parameds arrived. They layed her down, she threw up MORE water.....then they rushed her outside to the ambulance.
I didn't know what happened to her. All I can tell you that my head, was pounding, but mostly my neck.
The next day, a sunday, ... I had a bunch of stuff to do. Around 12, I went to Toys R us,..bought a beannie baby bear..hopeing for the best. I went to the apartment, knocked on the door, and the non-english speaking grandmother opened the door, right away, she knew who I was....begged me to come in,..I did,...when I entered, I looked to the living room,...and both her baby girl where playing together on the floor. It was awesome. The mother heard noise, so she came out of the bathroom,.....in a towel,..nothing else....she saw me, and started to cry. She was really hot to. She was Iranian,...so she was ALWAYS covered....the was HOT!!! Anyways,.... her husband wasn't there, and he never thanked me,...although I saw him everyday. So, I think she was too afraid to tell him,.....
That was a great feeling but,.....I don't have that feeling with the case of these poor girls....not even close.
Anyways guys,..thanks again.... i'll search again today.
J Jamie:
Even if neither one of these women is still with us, it sounds like you handled the suituation with all of the respect and attention that it deserved...you did as much as could be done. Keep in mind that you may have been someone's final memory, and it sounds like you should take heart in the fact that you conducted yourself in the most concerned and respectful manner possible. Remember it, write it all down, as someone may want to hear what happened that night for one reason or another. Then, let it go. The driver,...will survive with minor injuries.
The Passenger, Kiki,....passed away, due to complications. :nono:

i'm really sorry for her. This is really a shame. But you did all you could. ylwjacket 10-14-05, 02:37 PM sad news indeed. God bless them both. Very nice job you guys did!
I came across a car that hit a pole sideways on the drivers door, flipped up and crushed in the roof then fell back down. (first one on the scene) I could see a girl's arm hanging out the window, not moving. I was really shaken up. Then one other car stopped and we felt we were talking to a corpse, she was so bloody and lifeless in there, no way we could do anything. Within an hour, they had her in a Lifeflight to Umass. It was really ugly, you feel so helpless. The girl was in my daughters high school class. I found out the next day she was doing Ok, broken hip, legs, concussion.. Until you've been there, it is very hard to understand.. CRZY747 10-14-05, 04:15 PM wow that sucks, I have been reading this since you posted it yesterday. I was praying that you would come back and say they were both alright.
I want to say thank god that there are still people like yourself that care about other fellow human beings, and have the courage to stop and render aid. I just want to say you and Marco are great for doing what you did, Good job guys

I know that you may feel bad because one of the people in the vehicle died. Howver you must also realize that if you and your friend hadn't stopped there would have been at least 2 if not more lives lost that night. The young lady who died may be gone but you cared enough to risk your life trying to save her's. So you my friend are a HERO. Rest assured that you and your friend made GOD smile that night. Because you both showed that in this world(which can be cruel, uncaring, and cold) that someone still cares enough to help their neighbor.
