MacK addison_ii 10-11-05, 04:18 PM Congrats on the SLS, post some pics when you get back. Have a safe ride there and drive back. Eldyfig 10-11-05, 06:59 PM Let's see if the SLS tempts you to test the north* performance more than the Deville. Be careful, citation prices are rising. Congrats. Ohio doesnt really let you release the wrath of the N* though :histeric: Ranger 10-12-05, 11:56 PM Just got home a few hours ago. Left Canton at 1030 and got home at 1900. It was about 450 miles and was a pleasure to drive. The car looks like it just rolled of the show room floor. Speed limits in Ohio are infact rather slow (60 mph). I did kick her up to 90 once but not sure if I was in Ohio or Indiana. I averaged 31+ mpg til I got into Meriville Indiana and the southern Chicago suburbs. The only problems I found was a vibration at about 65 mph and the infamous Seville trunk leak. She is going to the dealer tomorrow to have both taken care of. Every time I buy a new Caddy I swear they cannot get any better, then I replace it and am proven wrong. WOW, what a car! Eldyfig 10-13-05, 04:46 AM Sounds good...2002 with only 13k. Gee, all that TLC on your '97 and now you're going to let 'er go? Keep that '02 away from my house or my '96 will start gettin' worried... Ranger 10-13-05, 04:02 PM Sounds good...2002 with only 13k. What kind of warranty? You have a dealer that you trust? She is certified so I have 6/100K. It will expire on 02/28/08, long before 100K. The dealer near me is Gary Lang Cadillac, McHenry Ill. and have been pretty good when ever I have needed them. They have yet to give me any reason not to trust them. They just called and said they are replacing the trunk seal (what a shock) but the vibration is alignment and tire cupping and not covered so I have to call the Ohio dealer to find out if it was aligned and then rotate the tires when I get it back. While I was talking to the service writer some kid walks between me an the car with a two wheeled dolly and hits the passenger side mirror. I just looked at him with a look that could have killed him and he said "sorry". When I looked closer there was a scratch on it so I told the service writer, "you can fix this too". It looks like it can be buffed out. Good thing she was there to see it happen. addison_ii 10-13-05, 04:20 PM Nice deal Ranger. Post some pics of the new baby. Congrats. Luckily, she was there to see it though. BTW, does your SLS have fog lamps, a body-colored grille, and rectangular exhuast tips like 1998-2002 STSs have? I know that some '02 SLSs came with the aforemetioned standard features that make them look like STSs. Ranger 10-13-05, 08:58 PM Actually, the car wasn't even in the lot at the time. It was right infront of the service desk where you pull in. Yes to all of the above, fog lamps, body color monochromatic grill & rectangular exhaust tips. Plus wood trim package (wheel & shifter), chrome wheels and some body trim package that I am not familiar with. mcowden 10-13-05, 09:33 PM Actually, the car wasn't even in the lot at the time. I will be looking for your car if your ever in the Chicago area. I'll blow thrice if I think its you. Congrads. Ranger 10-14-05, 12:41 AM Thanks ALBUNDY but I grew up in Chicago and now avoid it like the plague. You'll rarely find me east of O'hare. Mcowden, Keyboard's in the mail ;) Ranger 10-14-05, 10:13 PM Well, I got "Ruby" back from the dealer this morning. Three leaks found and repaired. They rotated the tires and told me all the pressures where between 30-32. I checked when I got her home and guess what, 25 psi in front and 23 in the rear. I knew I should have checked them before I left Ohio. One would think a 100+ point certification inspection would check tire pressures. I am sure the Illinois dealer simply rotated them and never checked the pressures. To make matters worse, the car had locking lugs on it. One of my lug caps is missing and they never put the key back in the trunk where they found it. I called them and they said no problem, stop by in the morning and we'll make it right. I am sure they will but I should not have to go through this. I don't think they will get a favorable feedback on this questionaire, which the service advisor seemed to be a bit concerned about. He pretty much said he'd rotate the tires for free or a favorable feedback. BTW, the mirror scuff was buffed out and is non detectable. MACTICULOUS 10-14-05, 10:52 PM Congrats on the new car Ranger. That sucks about the mirror though, at least it was taken care of. I have that same damn shake at 65. So, did the alignment fix it or was it the cupped tires. I have Goodyear Integritys that were on it when I bought it and they shake like a mother. I was debating leaving them on and just dealing with it or changing them. What do you suggest. Thanks in advance. -Mac 91TexasSeville 10-15-05, 02:16 AM Congratulations Ranger Seems like we both got bit by the new car bug at the same time.... A road force balance all but took care of it. There is still a very minor vibration but I am hopeing that as the feathering wears even it will smooth out completely. I strongly recommend a RFB to take care of any vibrations. If you go on the Hunter web site, they will tell you who has the Hunter GSP9700 balancer in your area. That said, I called the dealer I bought it from in Canton Ohio (progressive Cadillac) and they are going to reemburse me for both balancing jobs. I'm impressed and thought they deserved an at-a-boy. Will post pics of Ruby tomorrow. thu 10-30-05, 01:36 AM Cool. I just picked up a white STS two Fridays ago. Indeed - what an Automobile! Ranger 10-30-05, 04:14 PM Here are the pics of Ruby. samm 10-30-05, 05:31 PM yeah, i have that shake on my 99 SLS too, macticulous. so ranger, what fixed the shake? thanks SAM Dadillac 10-30-05, 06:37 PM Ranger, sweet ride man. Best of luck with it. As far as the vibration goes, get used to it. It may have gotten better, but it won't go away. As long as it isn't bad, just accept it, and be happy with the nice ride. Don Ranger 10-30-05, 09:18 PM yeah, i have that shake on my 99 SLS too, macticulous. so ranger, what fixed the shake? thanks SAM Road force balance. See post #22. mtflight 11-03-05, 10:12 AM Here are the pics of Ruby. Very nice, Ranger! I missed this post originally. Regarding the Hunter roadforce balancer, I don't really have a high speed issue but I still hear a faint "wawawawawa" if I have the windows down and if the car is going through an area that has walls on the side (the sound bounces back). This is at 15 MPH, or less. The sound is unperceptible otherwise. I wonder if it is the wheel spokes spinning, cutting the air as it spins, rotors, or balancing? I purchased my tires at Sears (Falken Ziex Ze-512 as per Consumer Reports best buy all weather performance, H), and also got an alignment there with a Hunter machine (different machine, same brand). What is the website you're referring to? Thanks and congratulations! CAD DD 11-03-05, 04:20 PM Hey, is this a front driveline inbalance problem inherent to front wheel drive Caddys?? My 97 Eldo has the same vibration at 65 mph. I had all the tires rotated and balanced. The vibration is reduced somewhat now but at 65 it is still noticable. The tire shop tells me it is a drivline vibration problem and that he sees this complaint all the time. Would that be why the force balancer is the way to go ..to eliminate the vibration? humm.... could be... madooch 11-03-05, 05:14 PM nice ranger mtflight 11-03-05, 05:27 PM Hey, is this a front driveline inbalance problem inherent to front wheel drive Caddys?? The tire shop tells me it is a drivline vibration problem and that he sees this complaint all the time. Would that be why the force balancer is the way to go ..to eliminate the vibration? humm.... could be... Not with all Caddies. My understanding is that it is more common on the 98+ Seville, than any other car. I have an Eldorado, and there's no vibration at highway speeds. I have heard speculation that it is wholly tire-related, but the chasis or weight distribution or some unknown combination of factors in the Seville, make it more noticeable if there's an imbalance with these tires. Some have gone as far as noticing it as being tire-brand specific. Do a search on the forum. AlBundy 11-03-05, 05:55 PM Yes I also have a Eldo and I hav'nt noticed this problem by the way great car Ranger. You 02 STS owners kinda got me considering what my next car will be. Ranger 11-03-05, 09:59 PM mtflight, I don't think what you discribe is a balance problem. Here is Hunter site (one of them anyway). http://www.gsp9700.com/ CAD DD, Go for the road force balance. I suspect that will cure your vibration. It most likely has nothing at all to do with the driveline. This problem seems to be more predominent with Eldo & Seville but I do know of some Devilles with it. RFB seems to solve the problem every time. Patrick7997 11-03-05, 11:27 PM :woohoo: Congratulations on the Car, Ranger! Enjoy! Dadillac 11-04-05, 05:36 PM I had a set of tires Road Force Balanced and it made the vibration a little worse. The tires I currently have on, came from Tire Rack, and have the RFB. the car still vibrates. RFB is not a cure all to this problem. Some have had good results, as others, have not. Don CAD DD 01-04-06, 05:02 PM Hey, had the force balance done to no avail. Finally decided to change to a good set of GoodYear Eagles. The vibration mysteriously went away. SO it was bad tire problem that persisted even with the balancing done. GO FIGURE Eldyfig 01-04-06, 06:33 PM What kind of mileage warranty do the Eagles come with. I had bought some for a different vehicle about 10 years ago? I wasn't impressed at the time with how long they lasted. DBA-One 01-04-06, 08:57 PM Congrats on the car. Enjoy it in good times and health. Ur7x 01-04-06, 11:04 PM Very Nice Car Ranger! Great Color! Another "issue" with '02s that you might want to investigate while your car is still on warranty is with the radio unit failing to communicate with the stacker... On the SLS this was an option so you might not have this problem... If you do have a stacker... load it up with CDs, but don't listen to them... early radios in '02 will drop the stacker from the list of sources... This take 3 days to 2 weeks to occur... Very Intermittent and very annoying... Good news is that GM knows about this problem..
