View Full Version : Which one? Planediveguy 10-10-05, 04:20 PM Hi to all! I'm another newbie here...
I am about to order my CTS... and I want the 3.6 with the 18"wheel sport appearance package...
The problem is I really like the Navigation and they don't offer it on the above trim. Should I get the 17" luxury with the nav and then get the "dealer installed" wheels and etc.
OR
Get the sport performance package and then install the Nav?
Thanks for any help.
Lexus, Mercedes, and all look nice...But the CTS Rocks!!! I have the luxury package and I upgraded the wheels to 18's. I dont have the sports package so I cant compare the performance difference to say whether or not it would be worth it. Others with the sport package will tell you that it makes a huge difference.
There must be a reason that the 18" package does not come with NAV so I cant be sure that a Nav would be easily added after the fact. I can tell you that I added the NAV after the fact and I can tell you that if you want a full functioning NAV that you should have atleast select the Bose system because adding a full working NAV to a non-Bose is a bitch. Welcome, tough choice. Maybe ask the dealer if they could install Nav on the Sport model?
This is my second car with NAV. I love the NAV and would be less likely to consider a car without vs a car with NAV. My .02 cents RobertCTS 10-10-05, 05:07 PM Welcome, tough choice. Maybe ask the dealer if they could install Nav on the Sport model?

If you give up the 18" which can easily be added later..would you also lose the Spt Grill? That would suck. I think the NAV system added by the dealer would be real costly. Personnally I would let the NAV slide. My driving needs really doesn't requires a NAV system. It's a pricey option for just vacations. Now I could see where a sales rep might find it useful. Hmmm..I don't think I helped you at all.:o Planediveguy 10-10-05, 07:40 PM Thanks! Any info is welcome... I will be receiving my "Fighting Chance" package this week and after the "Fax Attack" I will ask the dealer what can be done.
Tomm thanks for the tip about getting the bose system... I will definetly get it! SilverCTS 10-10-05, 08:05 PM Hi to all! I'm another newbie here...

I'm not sure if I am up-to-date on the 2006 packages / options, but if I were you, I would get the NAV right now. You won't regret it.
I had to drive to my son's soccer tournament in central PA this past weekend, and the NAV system made it unbelievably simple. All I had to do was the put the Hotel address in, and the NAV system took us to the front door. Then, the next day, all I had to do was put the address of the field in, and the NAV system took me right to the field.
The reason why I appreciated it so much this past weekend was because of the weather. The conditions were absolutely horrible (ton of rain while driving at night). I couldn't see very well, and was driving on a lot of unfamiliar roads (I basically had no idea where I was). The NAV system made it much safer for my son and I because I didn't have to look at a piece of paper or a map while driving. It enabled me to focus on safe driving during a torrential rain storm.
I have always used the NAV system pretty extensively in the past, but I really appreciated it more than ever this past weekend.
Plus, the CTS instrumentation looks way better with the NAV.
You can always get the 18'' wheels later. Tyler80 10-10-05, 08:30 PM Does anyone know why certain options aren't available with certain packages? I vote for the NAV as well. For the type of driving you will probably be doing - in city and freeway--the sport package will make little to no difference. Add the 18s later on...
my 2 cents worth... thefred 10-10-05, 10:04 PM I almost bought mine without the NAV. I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to get it. Now, I wouldn't buy another car without it. Add the wheels later! pjohnesq 10-10-05, 10:08 PM Does anyone know why certain options aren't available with certain packages?
$$$$..if you really want something that is not in a package, you end up paying for it as extra item..they have shrinks on retainer to figure us out..... pjohnesq 10-10-05, 10:10 PM Get the sport performance package and then install the Nav?
:yeah:I opted for the sport supension etc w/o Nav...Since most of my trips where I would need, actually WANT the Nav are pre-planned anyway, yahoo maps work fine for me...And the sport suspension.......ooohhhhh weeee! Sweet on some of these CA winding and open roads Plane:
About a month ago, I was told by my dealer (in Northeast PA) that the 18" sport appearance package (with the wheels/grill/spoiler/rocker mouldings) wouldn't be available until 2nd quarter '06. If you're getting ready to order your car now, did they roll that date up? That'd be great news! It doesn't make sense that this option wouldn't be available with Nav. Were there any restrictions with the Nav in previous years? Planediveguy 10-11-05, 12:39 AM Plane:

It doesn't make any sense, does it? Unless having such a nice CTS would conflict with the STS sales... Which by the way my dealer was desperately trying to push on me...Nothing against the STS, but I prefer the CTS design.
My dealer has ordered 2 CTS with the Sport Appearance Package and they should be here soon. I will take pictures and post them here as soon as I can.
The 2006 CTS catalog lists the Appearance package as "dealer installed items" So I can probably get the Nav and then have the dealer install the 18" wheels and the works...

If you can do that, I say that is the way to go. You may notice that people without Nav say not to bother, but everyone with Nav says to get it. I too thought it would be a novelty at first, but, you'll likely be surprised how much you use it. jteolis 10-11-05, 01:10 AM I'll NEVER buy another car w/o navigation, its soooo nice. I too got mine without NAV, wasn't that important to me as I generally know where I am going and probably wouldn't drive it on any long trips. If I get lost I reach up to the OnStar button and ask them where I am. Of course I like driving my car so maybe getting lost isn't such a bad thing.
If I did get the NAV I would have to explain how to use it my wife... :banghead: Welcome to the Forum! :) Since you really seem to want the Nav, drive both with the 17" pkg. and the 18" pkg. If you don't notice a difference stay with the 17". You can allways upgrade later and you still have the nav. The 18" will allways be available. unfortunatley we've been unable to get a selling price for them yet as a latter add on.I kinda envy your dilema but am loking forward to upgrading my 04 with some of those new parts. GOOD LUCK! RobertCTS 10-11-05, 06:58 AM Plane:

One member has already seen the new Spt Pkg. Don't forget you get more than the wheels. You get the tower brace and Spt body colored grill. The NAV units are cool but unneeded in my life style. You need to ask yourself the same question or are you buying it as a toy.:hmm:  I can't believe GM/Cadillac makes you choose between one or the other. I'd go with the factory installed NAV. You get more than the Nav. The interior appearance is nicer, radio info & vehicle info display is better. Plus you should be able to get a DVD disc to play. Over the life of the car you'll get plenty of use out of this system. The 18" wheels will become available through eBay, dealer, etc. Figure out which one you prefer. Factory install is better than doing it later. Which is easier? My vote is for the sport appearance package. You can add a NAV for 2K. You can't put CTS rims & tires, body colored grill w/mesh and the strut tower brace on for that kind of money.
Good luck w/whatever you choose. RobertCTS 10-11-05, 04:52 PM My vote is for the sport appearance package. You can add a NAV for 2K. You can't put CTS rims & tires, body colored grill w/mesh and the strut tower brace on for that kind of money.

I am leaning towards this option... after surfing through this forum it is clear that I can add the NAV later at a much lesser cost. The installation don't seem to be too hard to do. Does anyone here installed their own NAV? There has been a couple that have done it here. I think there may be a paper on in it in the FAQ's. Tomm and Mbai are the experts on this. onephatguy 10-12-05, 12:23 AM My vote is for the sport appearance package. You can add a NAV for 2K. No, you're right, you can't put those on for the money. But you do pay more for it up front. How much is the sport apperance package? Get the Nav. and you can cutomize the look of your car later. Do you really want the stock wheels? Most people choose after market wheels. You have to personalize your car to distinguish it from stock. AznPrydeRegalRyde 10-12-05, 12:50 AM No, you're right, you can't put those on for the money. Myself? I'd get the 17's with the Sport/Lux, as you still get the sports suspension, 17's, springs/shocks and you can still get the NAV. That's if you'd end up getting new rims and a grill anyhow. If you plan on keeping the 18's and sport grill, I'd go for that and install the NAV later.
It all depends on if you'll keep the rims and grill from the sport appearance package. Remember, the sport package is a different package. TripleOught 10-12-05, 11:05 AM i know this might be more, but what if you went with the sport option and just told them to install the nav before you picked it up? spot the extra 2 g's on it up front and have it tacked onto what you're financing...that way you will barely notice the slight dfference per month. is that even an option? That is a good question... I will try to find out.
Also, looking into what the packages give you... The only thing that comes to mind is that the 18" packages have a tire pressure monitor, which is not an option with the 17"... could that be the reason why the 18" is not available with NAV? That is a good question... I will try to find out.

I doubt that is the reason. The CTS-V uses the same NAV and has the tire pressure monitor. i know this might be more, but what if you went with the sport option and just told them to install the nav before you picked it up? spot the extra 2 g's on it up front and have it tacked onto what you're financing...that way you will barely notice the slight dfference per month. is that even an option?
:hmm: I don't think there's a dealer anywhere that would tackle the DVD NAV install. They don't have clue and would automatically tell you "it couldn't be done, won't work", etc. I wouldn't even get the dealer involved for that. All the necessary information is provided here and www.cadillacfaq.com . (http://www.cadillacfaq.com .) It's one or the other, but not both. Planediveguy 10-17-05, 05:16 PM Thanks for all the help. This is what I have decided:
The 17" sport package... 17" are good enough for me. I will order it fully loaded with NAV and all and then add the Grill and other goods as they are dealer installed options anyway. For the kind od driving I do, I need the nav and I prefer to use the OEM one rather than sticking an ugly Garmin on the windshield...

So you would add an extra $40 per month to your payment for the next 5 yrs to have NAV?? No thanks. Buy the NAV seperate and install it yourself or have it done. jteolis 10-17-05, 09:49 PM The sport pkw w/18" wheels has TPS and I believe that the navigation isn't compatable with the CTS nav.
The V has the TPS readout on the dash, not in the nav
TPS is read in the dash cluster NOT on the Nav screen in the V. That has to be the problem. TripleOught 10-17-05, 10:55 PM So you would add an extra $40 per month to your payment for the next 5 yrs to have NAV?? No thanks. Buy the NAV seperate and install it yourself or have it done.
well, i don't know how much the dealer package costs with nav or how much they would charge you for installing it, but that equates to 2400 dollars. what if you do it yourself? it was only an option, i didn't say it was the only option. in many cases it's just easier to get all that shit done at the same time if you know it's going to be done right and you don't get too ripped off. jteolis 10-18-05, 10:28 AM IF you DON'T get the nav you'll be sorry. RobertCTS 10-18-05, 10:46 AM IF you DON'T get the nav you'll be sorry.
Don't you think that's possibly a waste of money if you have little or no application for it?:hmm: Most of us just comute back and forth to work, around town and a vacation once a year. That would be my profile. It's really a neat instrument and it seems fun to play with but I've got a lot of other buys that's ahead of a Nav system. My 2 cents. TripleOught 10-18-05, 07:55 PM i feel the same. great to impress people and to play with; as i'm a HUGE gadget junkie....but if i could have one or the other i'd go for performance... jteolis 10-18-05, 08:58 PM I have luxury/Sport AND the nav, will this new sport model out-perform my car? I think I missed something. What did you end up getting? Tell us the color and the options you got.:bouncy: Planediveguy 10-19-05, 11:37 PM You did not miss anything as I did not get the CTS yet... I was approved for the car loan on Capital One Auto finance. You apply online and they send you a blank check that you can write up the amount that was approved. Normally they offer a better APR than the dealer, and some dealers try to get you a higher APR as they can get $$$ out of it.
Check this site out... you might get pissed off, as I did after seeing some of the scams one of the Cadillac dealer tried to pull on us... but not all dealers are bad. Unfortunately there are a few that are and this site really helps to get educated about it: http://www.carbuyingtips.com

Robert,
This is funny... I actually learned English because of Star Wars... I am originally from Brazil and moved to the US because my wife wanted to live here again ( she was born in Virginia) We met on a Pacific Island where I was a resort manager and head divemaster ... www.bikiniatoll.com now I am a pilot (hence plane -dive -guy)
Check out Capital One Auto Finance... I applied for it yesterday... got a 40,000.00 loan at 6% APR. If the dealer can honestly give me a better APR and no scams, then I will get their financing, and the check from Capital One gets shredded without penalties. They overnighted a "Blank Check" that is as good as cash and I can write it up to 40K and as little as 7.5K ( which won't apply for the CTS) The check has a booklet with instructions and is very user friendly. Even though it is a loan, as far as the dealer goes you become a cash buyer... and don't have to deal with their finance department. Not that they are all bad... but some of them should be in jail...
I will purchase the car sometime next week and I am looking for the 17" Sport Luxury package with NAV in Black or Blue Chip... or Stealth Gray.

Actually the last delaler we've done business with was very nice... My wife was able to get her Escalade at a decent APR and they did not scam us too bad... I still had to pay for a $ 250.00 VIN window etching fee, which you can do yourself on the internet for about $20.00!!!! and it gives the same results!
