Looks like there are alot of new cars coming out in 2006. More competition for the sedans this year and more HP. Heck even the Altima is coming out with a 250HP engine option. The new Dodge Charger looks like a fun car and its affordable at $29,995 and has a HEMI with 340HP.

Dodge Charger R/T

340-HP 5.7L HEMI® V8 w/Multi-Displacement System
Electronic Stability Program & All-speed traction control
Performance 4-wheel disc ABS
18" polished aluminum wheels
Leather Seats
Boston Acoustics sound system

I just hope the 2007 CTS will be more powerfull since everyone else has boosted their HP and so far the Cadillac CTS has stayed the same. Even Toyota has their Avalon up to 268HP.

Either GM drops the price on the V, (not gonna happen), or give the CTS more hp...and real soon...O.K., so we got the whole "break through" concept...now that you've broken through, you don't stop, you keep leading the pack..I hope they don't drop the ball on this...I think I can wait for the new version of CTS's and then get a V....at 400 plus hp you should be o.k...then again, maybe not....

I wouldn't worry, the next CTS will get more horsepower, but when is enough enough? Do we keep pushing the HP limit higher and higher? Will the day come when your garden variety sedan has 400hp?

Looking at the past 10-15 years, I think 400+ hp for an average lux vehicle may not be very uncommon.

Back in the 90's BMW, Lexus, and Benz rarely had sports cars that topped 300+ hp.

Cars are getting increased performance and efficiency. I'm looking forward for what the future brings.

yeah. we pretty much live in a supersize and microwave society, we tend to like BIG and FAST things. even if its a luxury sedan that you use to pick up grandma with. :-)

What can i say, we're addicted to speed!

At 4100 pounds, the Charger is pretty heavy so it needs that much horsepower to move. Yes more power is cooler, but is it better? Not if gas prices continue their upward spiral. You cannot make that much power on regular unleaded. The '06 models were brought to market at least two years ago when the fuel demand was in a different place. If anything, we are going to see manufacturers backing off high power for more efficiency because consumers will demand it. People are already abandoning gas guzzlers for more modest and efficient cars, the trend will only continue.

Some of us bought the CTS because it had a V6 instead of a V8. As much fun as a CTS-V would have been, I just didn't want to feed it. The times that I would actually use the power of the CTS-V or it's competitors are so few that it is just silly to invest in so much waste. Sure there are people to whom these issues are beneath notice, but the public at large is going to be demanding more efficiency and less raw power. We are back to 70's when all the muscle cars were neutered so they wouldn't be as gas hungry. It is sad but true. Thankfully, I got in while the getting was good!

That's the 5.7 Hemi @ 340HP. The optional 6.1 Hemi @ 425HP can really kick some ass!

Some of the pricey cars are hovering around 500HP. Corvette is already there.

i changed my order from the CTS with the 2.8 to the Charger R/T with the 5.7. I saved over two grand doing that and iam still getting all the things i wanted from the CTS in the Charger. Also with the Charger it has that MDS that shuts down 4 cylinders, gets like 17/25mph.....same as what the CTS is said to get. Also runs about 14.3 stock in the 1/4 hehe.

Forgive me for i have sinned....
2006 Charger R/T black on black with the track pack!
:devilheh: You "might" be forgiven my son....

Chrysler has some of the most innovative cars on the road today. I can't say I really like them, Chrysler 300, Magnum, Charger, etc. They're bold and different. I like their concept. However, we must realize we now live in the $3.00 gas a gallon era. More horsepower, bigger and faster is better. But is it realistic? Gas will probably never return to below $2.50 and we're one major terrorist act or major natural disaster away from shortages and long lines. I grew up in the late 60s & 70s muscle car era. It was great. Then came the early 70's with higher gas prices and shortages. Life hasn't been the same. Give me a good looking, sporty cars with moderate performance. I want better gas mileage, period. Cost is one thing, limited gas availability would be a nightmare. I like the hot cars, but I now prefer looks over macho performance.

i dont think you can really compare the charger to the cts. 2 different classes. when i think cts, i think: IS, 3-series, C-class, A4 etc. I dont think you can say the Charger is necessarily better then the CTS, or vise versa.

i wouldnt say its a better car, they arnt in the same class. But for me it is a better car, its more of what i want in a car. There will still be a place in my heart for a good ol' cadillac but iam very happy i got the Charger on order, i got more then i thought i could with the Charger, the track pack was a 1600 option but over all still 2 grand less then the 2.8 CTS. alot of the CTS's feat. are on the Charger i got too, and more, like steering wheel control, dual zone climate control, dodges vers of the DIC, heated leather seats, power adjustable pedals....i could go on

So what are you gonna do with all the CTS Parts in your Mom's garage? Didn't you order a custom hood in a group buy? Hey you have another year..maybe you'll change your mind again.:D

no iam 100% on this, i wasnt 100% happy with the CTS. The hood, i'll be ending my order, so i guess i donated 130 bucks to help the CTS-V guys out lol, but thats fine with me. My step dad is real happy, hes a mopar guy, loves his caravan and his first car was a 66 Plymouth Valiant. He cant wait to see it and iam sure get a ride.

I had a Plymouth Baracuda and a Roadrunner. How much more for the ^.1 engine? Nice cars but not a Cadillac.:D Have you searched for a Dodge Charger Forum yet?

found 2, well one charger one LX, the 300/magnum/charger platform is the LX. Good people over there, but i wont stop comming here. The SRT with the 6.1 starts at about 38k i think, maybe less but thats to much car for me....till i get the supercharger on the hemi....500rwhp! But thats 6 grand later. My dad had a 73(i think it was, before i was born) Road Runner, blue with white stripes on the side.

I think you want the 5.7 RT Charger. I think the LX is a 6cyl. If you think you'll SC the 5.7 you should get the 6.1

Yeah I looked at the Charger and the price and the 6.1 Hemi are impressive, but in the end it just isn't a Cadillac!!! I am sure someone on here will figure out how to pull the 6.1 out of the Charger and drop it in the CTS!

I am getting the R/T, LX is the basic platform that the Charger/300/magnum are built on. Like the b bodies of yore. And now there is a turbo set up for about 3 grand good for about a 80hp bump. And i wont be doing that for a while. Also the SRT had higher insureance and a gas guzzler tax, the R/T does not. Also higher sales tax. I feel so smart thinking about EVERYTHING this time and not just getting the biggest and best lol. Its funny cause over there the SRT guys tell the R/T guys they shoulda just got a SRT, like the V guys here telling the base guys they shoulda just got a V.

like the caddy is said to have with people, i have a real love/hate relationship with the chrysler 300 and the charger relative to appearance...the big truck like grille is eye catching and interesting, but i think looks much better on the trucks then the cars!:)

don't get your hopes up to much on the shutting down of cylinders for economy feature. when i was considering the chrysler 300 i thought that was brilliant and held interest for me. after reading a # of reviews online, i note that not once did a reviewer who had stats on the feature remark that it saved them any gas. if i have a hemi, i'm liking pushing the pedal pretty hard all the time anyway:)

lastly, i took an altima with 6 cylinder (with full sports package), chrysler 300 with 6 cylinder and cadillac into consideration when i was looking for a new car. my thoughts were:

altima was the best all around performer for a "sports feel" with strong engine performance. cockpit felt a little cramped and was uninspiring too view.

the chrysler- after the love hate/relationship with appearance, i immediately noted the very cheap feel of the interior..no soft surfaces at all..you could see it, never mind , feel it..the chrysler engine performance was uninspiring and the handling sloppy..ride was good, but not great.

the caddy - the best looking car of the 3 to me, most features, best comfort/sports ride hybrid, not as kick you back in the seat as the altima, but noticeably better performance than the chrysler, better handling than the chrysler and nice soft padded interior.

i was coming off a chrysler minivan lease so fully intended to buy a 300 when i walked into the dealership, until i took the caddy for a drive!

It's the SE-R like 32K? I would never pay that for an Altima. Just my opinion though.

in canada, the SE-R version would have cost me about the same as the caddy given that they didn't have the family type discounts available. but i also would have for sure, had to buy a set of tires and rims for winter. the launch is just too hot and i don't recall it having a winter mode to help.

hasnt been done...yet. Theres a guy putting the 426(6.1) heads intake and headers on the 345(5.7) block with a new cam...and its supercharged. Theres a supercharged magnum that runs 13.3 with headers and exhaust. Iam looking into maybe turbo at about 3500 bucks, about 2 grand less then the supercharger. i figure 400hp to the wheels and i'll stop...maybe....Mopar even sells a CAI and lowering springs, oh oh and chrome valve covers. The whole idea of putting 426 heads on a 345 block reminds me of the Super Bees with 440 heads on 383 blocks. My sn there is SuperBee06 so i may just need to make good on my name and do the head swap and bumble bee stripes!

se-r isn't for everyone. It may be too sporty for most people.
SE-R is light and nimble

What I find interesting is the Magnum seems to draw a lot more attention than the Charger. I think it is the lines of the roof. It looks like it's been chopped. We get a lot of drivers give us the thumbs up or come over to our car and ask how we like it. The rotors on the Magnum are almost twice as big as my CTS.
I'm a big DIY person and the big storage area is cool for the 2x4s and the surf board.

Ours is the 5.7 and is fast. I'd love to drive the 6.1!!:bouncy:

Rob you got a mag??? Cool, i liked the mag when it came out but i didnt want a wagon. The charger has those huge rotors too, the really fill out those 18s. I think the front of the Magnum looks a little more relaxed, the Charger looks like it just wants to eat somthing, i love it. In about 3 hours i'll be getting a Super Bee name plate, then the trunk and grill Bees. Yes, i am making a 2006 Dodge Super Bee, hood scoop, bumble bee stripes and all! Cant wait.
