Can't believe that the best decade for Detroit iron has been overlooked here.

I have a couple to contribute:

http://encyclopedia.classicoldsmobile.com/toronado/66.jpg
1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

And I like just about everything Pontiac did in 1969.
http://www.pontiacserver.com/69bonne_ad.jpg

And of course, who can forget this?
http://www.highwayone.com/Images/Photos/Cadillac/MarleyCadillac.jpg

I think I prefer the 1960 model to the 1959 model.

I'm not a fan of Cadillacs from 1961-62, or 1969-70. I do like 1963-68.

My parents bought a 64 Impala sedan when I was six months old, and I eventually learned to drive in that car. 15 years after my dad sold it, I bought my 64 Impala sport sedan. It's the same Meadow Green as the car I grew up with, and I love it.

My Web site is down at the moment, but I posted some pictures on the Chevy Talk Web site (http://www.chevytalk.org/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB13&Number=1295582&page=0&fpart=4)

See?

I think it's clear now that the 60's were the best decade for cars, particularly American muscle!Yes and no Elvis, the 60s pruduced a lot of cars that were spectacular to some degree and stood out in a crowded parking lot but what we may be forgetting here is the lack of refinement that many of those cars had compared to what is available today or in the last 15 years even.

Suspension geometry has improved tremendously, engines and control systems are also much more efficient. They are capable of comparable performance in some cases with greater economy and longevity.

Take, for instance, my favorite 60s choice, the '68 L88. It had a 10 or 12 gallon gas tank and fuel economy which forced you to fill up on the hour, every hour if you were to take a road trip in it. The clutch was so stiff you had to be able to do multiple reps on a leg press with your own weight if you expected to be able the shift the beast. The suspension was murder on your kidneys and yet it didn't handle as well as you would expect from a sports car.

Driving that beast was a lot of hard work! But it looked bad! It sounded bad! It got rubber in all four gears!

I sure as hell wouldn't mind that altered wheelbase/factory experimental Comet in in the background of that cougar, either. The AFX cars were friggin bad ASS. The other day I saw a '64 Hemi Belvedere A/FX car here in Yuba City, actually...had to call all my mopar buddies and tell them to get the hell over to IHOP to check it out!

thats why i havent responded , there are too many i love from the 60s ...even in racing it was the last years of the really forward thinking ...nowadays there too much "cookie cutter" in racing .....and in pasenger cars ....

turbine powered indycars , rear drive pontiacs with "torqe tubes" ,buicks with aluminum v8s ,mopars with huge wings, and horns that go "meep meep"....and the corvettes , oh those sweet things .....

ICYI, the original "The Italian Job" movie's opening scene features a Miura SV tooling around the Alps until it runs into an earthmover in a tunnel.
