So I'm just got out of school for the day (College Algebra class) and I am driving home. I'm a little tired and generally not in a good mood.

During the drive home, I was being followed by a older model ('95-ish) black Honda Civic for a couple of miles. They were riding a little close for my comfort...So I take a Right-hand turn onto the main road leading that is fairly close to where I live at. So does the Civic, which was still tailgating me...

I decide to punch the gas to get up to speed limits, as there was really no one in front of me. So does the Civic...Once I get up to speed, the Civic still maintains riding my ass. As we can tell from my selection of words here, I was getting a little pissed off...

As I am coming upon a truck that needs to make a turn into the local Burger King, I had to change lanes so that I do not have to come to a complete stop. I looked, I attempted to change, then BAM! The Civic decides that it wants to change lanes with me. This causes me to immediately get back into the truck lane as I do not want a collision with the Civic. So I therefore almost rear-end the truck. Luckily, the truck turned right in time...

When everything finally cleared, the Civic blows past, and the male passenger gives me the middle finger! At this point, I'm rather livid and I speed up and yell "**** YOU *******S!!!" And the idiot passenger in the Civic (girl was driving) just kept his finger out as the went speeding past me...I was going to give chase and settle the issue becasue of my anger, but I decided to make another turn and just go home.

I'm getting tired of all of this punk ass bullshit. I can never seem to get a break here, so I am wondering, was I the one in the wrong here? Please take the poll to tell me about it...

Didn't see a poll, but you have to just let this crap go.

When somebody's tailing you like that, the only thing to do is pull over and see what the problem is. They'll stop and tell you if there is one, otherwise they'll speed away like that.

If you feel like screwing with them, just slow down and make them pass. Don't ride the brake, just let off the gas and go 10 mph under the limit. Let them know you're watching them in the rear view. I did this the other day and it nearly drove a woman crazy. I don't know what her hurry was, but it certainly wasn't MY fault she was late!

Now I see the poll. I voted leave it alone!

I voted to leave it alone as well, because in all honesty, this is something that doesn't make me feel very good as a person. It's just that people are getting more rude as each day passes on. It's like there is a big reason to be in such a hurry. I have my philosophies about as to why, and I try to work that into the equation when something like this happens, but after all, I'm still Human and my emotions still run on the wild side once in a while...:(

In my youth I'd never let it go!

Now, "I'm not like that anymore", quote from Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood.

I don't believe in being in a hurry to go somewhere. If you will be late, its better to be late than to have a wreck because you were in such a hurry.

Besides, we have Cadillacs. They are made to cruise - not race, down the road. My Cadillac is slow anyway and puffs a lot of black smoke (its a diesel) so I usually don't get that problem of tailgaters, they try to get away from me as fast as they can.:lildevil:

But anyway, i would just drive slower so they think you're an old person, and if they continue to **** with you, then (assuming you have a fast Cadillac, like an STS) blow their doors off as you speed past them...

I get it alot. It just annoys me, i have this trick i play on them, especially at night, where i flick on the rear foglights, they see the rear lights light up bright red and that makes them back off a bit! I espcially get them when im in my vectra, because that doesnt go above 80mph. It has a tow bar though :)

I would have used "all of the above" were it available. As it is, I chose "leave it be". I think that the wisest of the choices.

I have a hard time with jerks like that too but I've found that giving in to my anger only makes me the fool. (I hate that too!) I so much want to roar in my righteous indignation but, alas, there's no good in it for me...........

Best to try and stay calm and evade the situation with the knowledge that they will reap! They will reap!

I'd be furious as well! It's a distraction and it could have caused you an accident.

And this happened to me a few months ago with a small convertable (can't remember if it was a Z4 or Miata) they were tailgating, (in town going 50 kph-city limit) and I was approaching another vehicle only going 40 so I start to pas and I don't see the little bugger in my rear view mirror, so I look over my left shoulder and there he is trying to pass!!!! I think the car in front should have dibbs on passing!!! I was mad, so I got around the slow car after he did and I went RIGHT ON his ass. He didn't like it and sped up, so did I! Then he turned off and I just kept going straight to where I was going. He gave me a shaking fist as I drove on, and my adreneline was through the roof! On my way home, I went past his street but could not find his roadster parked anywhere. I would have got the LP and possibly reported him for tailgating.

I was mad but did what you did in the end....nothing, which was the wise thing to do..... :mad2:

Pull over? Hell no. You'll get your ass kicked. I'd show them what a V8 can do and take off. In no time at all they'd be way too far behind to tail me.

what is it about people in civics?? I've had that problem before, i just do the slowing down think and they go past. Nothing like going 10 in a 45 in a 90 Coupe Deville with flowmasters to really piss someone off.

Believe me, I'm not at all worried about getting my ass kicked. Besides, when I get out-numbered, I have the trusty old camshaft in my back seat! :bouncer: :D But I do see a point here; you have to be very careful these days because nothing in the world can evade the all-mighty bullet...And with my luck, I would get shot...

Ben, as for my car being slow, she's not! She would be very to hear you say that :p

I like to speed up and give the tailgater some hope and catch up with a car that's going equal to or under the speed limit when being followed closely and I just stick with that slow car, create a nice moving road block for the tailgater... might not settle any disputes, but it feels nice to know you're pissing off the cocky driver behind yeh!

I will flash the brake lights suddenly to scare them, if they dont take a hint I will slow down to 5 MPH.

I like big trucks on the freeway...running a CB radio and slowing to 55 mph and running with them is great...but you hafta let them know what's going on and make sure they're alright with it or else you could just cause more problems...probably always better to just let it go, but I like to stir up trouble once in a while... :)

Today I was being tailed by someone. I really didn't mind... Mainly because it was a friggen brand spankin new Porche 911 turbo, it was really really nice. I hate it though when some crap wagon tails me, so I speed up til they give up.

Umm...Not to get on your back or anything, but when I carry my .38, I make damn sure it's loaded (or instantly accessible to load) with real ammunition! I would never resolve to use that sort of weapon with the intentions of just "scaring" people. That would be more dangerous than if it were loaded...

Davesdeville, Illumina is right. You're giving someone reason to shoot to kill, and now you've got blanks!

I think the correct answer is 'leave it alone and let it go' but I usually end up getting a little annoyed......which is kinda lame.

I want to live by the Steely Dan mantra 'throw back the little ones and pan fry the big ones' save the energy for the important fights.....easier said than done.

Here in Cali, sh1t like this can even get you killed....talk about your senseless waste of human life.

That's exactly right! Being formerly of the military and the way I was raised (with guns), I learned not to play with them like toys. They're meant for either killing or disabling if possible (classified military techniques :suspense: ), but they're meant to be used as intended nonetheless.

You really don't want to play with me in that sort of thing. A full size truck will be tring to run me off the road in the Miata and I've swerved at them and made them back off. Then I got shot at by some people is a Tahoe :duck: and I've learned to pick me battles.

I don't know what your problem is, but you really need to chill with the bullshit Dave and grow up. I posted about that incident because I felt very bad about it and wanted to share it with people that I consider friends, which up until you made the "moron" comment, I also considered you a friend on this forum...I also realize that I should have demonstrated better judgement in that incident, but all is water under the bridge now.

Judging from your choice of words and phrases, and the egotistical need to get that last word in is purely a factor of how grown up, or mature you really are...You should try harder to work on it Dave...

It is also obvious that if you had any real experience with firearms (everyone's been shot at it seems), you would know better than to make a comment about that. I was in the United States Army for several years up until just about four years ago (January '02). If you put your head on right and think about it, you might be able to determine just what I have seen in my life and why I might be a little harsh about the comments that you've made.

Have a nice evening and please show better judgement in your anger with others. I will promise to do better in turn

I thought you couldn't hold a gun even if you wanted to.?. Aren't they all outlawed there? And we're reading that your officials are trying to outlaw kitchen (long) knives?.?

Correct me if I'm hearing things that aren't true.

I have never shot a gun so I don't have experiance with firearms. I was shot at when I was about 10 or so, a lowrider came barreling down my aunt's street and almost took my moms door off so I screamed at them, as soon as they slowed down to turn around my mom grabbed me and hauled me inside. Then the car stops in front of the house and we duck behind her adobe wall and fireplace as they shoot 2 rounds into the house, I'm not sure they were trying to hit us because they were lodged in the roof. Still scared the living hell out of me. Yeah I haven't been in the army during combat like you talk about, so what?

I know that actually shooting a blank or for that matter even pointing a gun at someone is stupid and wrong: stupid because they'll feel under attack and will defend themselves, and wrong because it will put them in fear of their lives (kind of like I was after the house I was in was shot at.) I posted a blatently obvious joke about doing it, how come I'm suddenly a big douchebag in your mind?

Look, if you feel bad about yelling at the people then you already knew what the results of the poll would be, they deserved your anger but you should just let it go.

My problem was that I made a little joke and you got up in arms about it. When that wasn't called for. My little joke wasn't offensive to anyone and was harmless. It wasn't at your expense. I'm not very angry about anything now, just seems weird people would get on my back about it. Your little sarcastic remark did rile me up a little so I gave you one back. Now you made a serious one and I'm giving you one back. I am not in the wrong for posting that bit of humor but if you're going to get on my back about it and then give me a snide remark then you're damn right I'll keep talking about it.

Kev

....My little joke wasn't offensive to anyone and was harmless. .............I am not in the wrong for posting that bit of humor but if you're going to get on my back about it and then give me a snide remark then you're damn right I'll keep talking about it.It is very old school knowledge that you never point a gun at someone unless you are prepared to kill them with it. It is also very old school knowledge that pointing an unloaded gun is not smart nor is using one with blanks as it may result in a loaded gun being fired back at you.

Many of us who are aware of that may have indeed been offended or at least understand the foolishness of even joking like that.

I appreciate your experience as a 10 year old, some one shooting a couple of rounds into your house is very dangerous and could be terrifying to anyone, especially a young child. I'm glad to hear that you, your Mom and your family were unharmed in the incident.

If you had seen the business end of a loaded revolver pointed at your gut while the trigger was being pulled back, or had the experience of sighting downrange as your fire your weapon into another man snuffing out his life forever, or perhaps you witnessed your buddy next to you take a round to the skull splattering his brains out the back of his head, or saw the cold gray lifeless body of another friend who bled out a few holes the size of a pencil you might not consider your joke appropriate.

I apologize for the harshness of this post but I feel it is necessary to share reality with our youth in the hope that it will make a positive difference in their lives. Dave, I hope you take this the right way, it is not intended to offend you or belittle you in any way.

davesdeville

Kev, that's not harsh at all.

I know that actually shooting a blank or for that matter even pointing a gun at someone is stupid and wrong: stupid because they'll feel under attack and will defend themselves, and wrong because it will put them in fear of their lives

Did that not cover most of what you're talking about? I'm not entirely sure Illumina has seen his friend brains splattered out of the back of his head, but even if he has he can't let every mention of firearms bring that up.

I grew up in a crime ridden neighborhood that happened to be 99% mexican, I'm white, I've been through and seen plenty of harsh reality in my time.

I think the people complaining about my joke might be a bit uptight. Don't visit the Jokes thread, as there are jokes in there offensive to women, men, canadians, athiests, etc. Wait a minute, you posted in there so you must've read it. I don't see anyone complaing in there. Why? Because they're jokes.

The joke you made was not about me being offended in the least, but was a question of common sense. I know better than to make so-called jokes like that because I understand what firearms (guns) are about through my experiences. And as far as not seeing my friends head being splattered all over the place, you're right, I've never seen that while it was happening; I'm the one with a bullet wound, so once again, I ask you to think before you speak, and that will be the end of that discussion. Period!

I grew up in a crime ridden neighborhood that happened to be 99% mexican, I'm white, I've been through and seen plenty of harsh reality in my time.

Yeah, tough times are common in that situation. I'll let you guess where I grew up for several years...I'll be making my NFL picks soon if that's any indication...:D :p

Again, I wasn't offended, but just stunned because of what I know about firearms. From this point on Dave, consider this bullshit water under the bridge. :o
