WHy do so many people like the old Caprice???

I know its RWD and V8, but its also the basis for every cop car and taxi from the mid 90s.


WHat am i missing, how is it any better than a Ford Crown Viccy?

they were bulletproof , easy to mod and were extermely confortable ...and were pretty damned fast box stock ....

crown vics never measured up to the caprice , still dont today ....

blank canvas , i still think a LS1 , 4L80E powertrain and updated suspension would make one killer car

the main issue with the crown vic , is the mod motors , some point int he early 90s ford stop putting 302s and 351s in the big cars , and went to 4.6 liter OHC v8s , there werent near as good as the ford small block and the gm small block .....and in my opion really arent today either....

some swaer by the ford mod motor , i for one dont ...

The modular 4.6 was put in for the 91 model year. The 90 Caprice had the standard issue old smallblock. The LS1 was put in F bodies in 1998+.

See i find the styling of both quite bland, although the 1993 is grand looking, they were all over the place, just like the Roadmaster, the Fleetwood is quite rare apparently of the three, also, i dont think the Crown Viccy measures up to anything these days. For cops and the nearly dead alike.....

I have respect for the Caprice, but i cant say i have a like for it, i suppose my Caprice is the Mercedes SEL bulletproof and comfortable, not easy to mod but who needs to.

Maybe if i was an average family man in the States, im sure the Caprice comes into its own there, being RWD and V8

The 1990 Caprices have GMs idiotic Door Mounted seat belts. To many of GMs cars had this feature.

I'd never consider a car with those unless it was given to me for free.


I like the 1987-1989 Caprice merely because of its exterior styling its very good looking. However the 1991+ Caprices have a more aerodynamic body and better powertrain which makes them more appealing.


1991+ 4.6L are Town Cars, 1992+ 4.6L Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis. 1991 was the last year of the LTD Crown Victoria and the County Squire and Mercurys Colony Park..

this i knew , i want to swap a LS1 into a 90 caprice .....didnt think i needed to go into that but hey .....also the 4l60e tranny i wanted for it didnt arrive till 91 ....you forgot to get that one ....but i want the revisied pressure relif valve in it , so im looking at 99+ for the tranny ....

those were great ....im surpirsed i forgot about it .....

They handle like soup.....My wife likes Coupes, and in the past ive owned a 6 series Coupe (the original) and i went to look at an 850CSi when it came out and was considering buying one new, gorgeous looking car, awful to drive though.
