OK i had the best 1970s car thread, what about the best car from the 1980s?

i liked the 1989 Mercedes 500SL, my brother in law had one in 1992 and it was great, i also like the 1984 BMW M635i.

There is of course the Bentley Brooklands.....

My favourite car of the 1980s was really 1991/1992 but it was developed in the 1980s so it counts. Its the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton

NICE!

Allante and Reatta, are they the same platform?

Stoneage_Caddy
09-25-05, 06:42 PM
nope , diffrent platforms ....the reatta was 100% built in the US , hand built at the lansing craft center where they now put together the chevy SSR , and soon the g6 vert ...reatta was avaible as a convertible in 1990

I forget where final assembly of the allante occured , the body was done in italy and shipped back to the US for assembly somewhere

dimentionally there very similar ....i think reatta was more based off a short fwd lesabre chassis ....allante came from a reworked eldorado chassis

Oh i get it, theyre both nice looking cars. I really like the Allante, if i was going to get one it would be a 93 N* car.

I also like that 199X Buick Riviera going slightly off topic.

No they did not. They did however, make the Fleetwood Coupe WITH what had previously been the d' Elegance interior package as Standard Equipment.

Fully loaded? Cool, so that was the SDV/CDV body right? I prefer the Coupe of that era over the Sedan and i know why too. Its the styling, because the SDV was long, and the trunk is also long, the styling made it look as if the car was dragging all of that bodywork, as opposed to something like a Jaguar that has haunches to make it look as if the car is pushing the weight from behind, this, IMO, had less effect on the Coupe,

I'm not as big a fan of 80's cars as I am 70's cars.

I had a 1985 Delta 88 that I'm still very fond of.

Also had a 1983 Mustang convertible I liked a lot.

I wasn't a big fan of the FWD Cadillacs, but they were extremely comfortable.

The 80s were wack. I am the only good thing to come out of the 80s. :p

I guess I don't mind the GN and Allante, and I can stand the 2.2 turbo cars from Chrysler.

Good call. That reminds me.

I'm gonna show some love for the '87 Suburban. All of the GM trucks were good in the late-80's.

Ya know the Caddy 4.X motors have the same bell housing pattern as the Fiero 2.5 and 2.8. Pretty much a drop in engine swap. Been told that when you clean off all the extra junk from the motor, you have more room to work on it in a Fiero than when it was in the Caddy.

Oh Fav 80's car. 85 Pontiac Fiero GT now with Caddy Power. 4.9 from 93 Elderado.

They are definatly "The most dependable, longest lasting trucks on the road". My first car was an 88 Silverado that was fully customized. I got it when it had 250,000 miles on it and I drove it to 310,000 miles. In 3 years I put $500 bucks into it and that was IT. One one the best trucks I have ever driven. But the 95 Seville did a pretty good job of replacing it :).

Not a whole lot of cars from the 1980's did much for me. Of the cars that spark my interest, the Buick Grand National or the 1980 big block 368 (not the 8-6-4 version) Cadillac Eldorado would be the top choices. Cars from the '70's really do the trick for me.

The torque of the 4.9 is a wonderfull thing in a Fiero. Idle around town at 1500rpms, or drop 2 gears and walk away from most anything on the road. You got to realize that when you remove all the extra junk from a 4.9 and ditch the Stock Caddy Exhaust it gains extra power just buy installing it into the Fiero. Plus near 30mpg on the highway. You do loose the comfort of the Caddy, my car rides like a buckboard.
