I know that this is probably somewhere else in the forum but I can t sem to find it. I need to Decode my VIN of The 74 Sedan Deville VIN # 6D49R4Q255949 I was told it was a 500 CID motor I can't Seem to find a decoder Also is there a way to look on engine to see.

Could I be pointed in right direction? Thanks

Wrong section but I can give you an answer... 1974 RWD Caddys like yours had the 472, which is a de-stroked version of the 500.

Check the bottom of these pages for some VIN info.

man, if you're married you've got one hell of an understanding spouse! I'd never hear the end of it if I started a project like that. I remember when she first moved into my place, it was suggested that I remove the Triumph 500CC motorcycle engine from my kitchen table (where I'd been rebuilding it) - and it was a very strong "suggestion"!
Best of luck with the buick - out of curiousity - was '53 one of the years where the speedo was a horizontal red gimick that went across the dash rather than the "sweeper" hand like most speedo's are? Maybe that was '55/56 - can't recall.
