In 20 year when I turn 44/45, I can't wait to buy an expensive, fast, fun mid life crisis car:crybaby: . What is the ultimate one? Jesda 09-24-05, 12:48 AM Turbo Miata! SpeedyArizona 09-24-05, 12:51 AM I want my Porsche Boxster!!!!!! Ralph 09-24-05, 01:02 AM Or maybe this Koenigsegg CC8S from Sweden. 806 horsepower from a Ford V8. Bet you don't these every day. (Bugatti only just beat it out as the world's fastest production car). Perfect for when I get bored of my wife. http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/8600/092348ga.jpg (http://imageshack.us) illumina 09-24-05, 01:03 AM I chose the Bimmer, but I would much prefer Al Bundy's brown Dodge: Dodge. (http://www.us-car-history.de/filmautos/aldodge/dodge1.jpg) Fleet 09-24-05, 02:08 AM From the choices listed, I picked the '69 Pontiac GTO Judge. But my personal choice would be a 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T with 440-Magnum, auto, and 3.55:1 gears. Low 14/high 13-second 1/4 miles, 5-6 passengers, big trunk and a tough and reliable engine. Jesda 09-24-05, 03:01 AM From the list, I picked the Boxster. The XLR would be another great choice. JC316 09-24-05, 03:08 AM The Ariel Atom. www.arielatom.com (http://www.arielatom.com). I would love to get one and make it street legal here. 0-60 in 2.9 seconds for around $40000.:burn: . Spyder 09-24-05, 04:36 AM hell, out of that list, there ain't many mopars...the SRT-10 I don't FIT in, cause its too dang small, but if I fit, it'd be my choice...I'd have to go with the Judge out of that list. followed by the stingray, just cause I love the old stuff...next in line, the 'vette ragtop. danbuc 09-24-05, 05:54 AM Turbocharged Lotus Exige. airbalancer 09-24-05, 09:18 AM For a mid life crisis a ragtop is great Sun out , twisted road ahead of you, and your wife of over 25 years beside you What could be better! Leloz 09-24-05, 10:38 AM According to my wife I am entering my second mid-life crisis. For my first, I bought a 1996 Mercedes SL500... now I just ordered a 2006 Z06 2LZ :D ShadowLvr400 09-24-05, 11:47 AM You left off the Ram SRT-10, I don't see any of the M series BMW's, none of AMG benz's stuff, none of the variant Mustangs.... Overall, I'd gun for either a Mustang, the Ram, or one of the hot sedans, like the V Caddy's, the M BMW's (M5 with a few years on it, like a yr 2000) or the AMG Benz's, (The E55 sedan is one of my favorite.) The sedans are at least somewhat practical, can carry a few people, hold some groceries, and will stay a bit more justified once you're out of midlife crisis. The Mustang as well perhaps to a lesser degree, it's a coupe, but tolerable back seat. The Mustang also has the bonus of being a tuner project car if you're into that as well. Another couple I'd maybe consider, the Jag Type-R's, the Volvo R series, The Vette of course, and perhaps one of the Jap "supercars." (I alsways loved the NSX looks, though power's been short for a long time.) There's a lot more stuff to look at out there. SpeedyArizona 09-24-05, 02:38 PM I could've listed hundreds of cars that would be perfect fpr a mid-life crisis, but I only have 10 blanks! I'm only 25, but I'm stressed and I need a Porsche to get over it!! How about a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley, or Rolls Royce? ShadowLvr400 09-24-05, 06:26 PM I still have a weakness for the M5 (previous body style, not the current, though 500 horses...) and the Benz E55 AMG. 469 horse.. 516 torque.... Reow. Blackout 09-24-05, 07:04 PM You can be original and get a vette! :highfive: Elvis 09-24-05, 09:29 PM Boxsters and Miatas are chick cars. I voted Z4. But I'd prefer an XLR. SpeedyArizona 09-24-05, 10:26 PM Don't insult the Boxster:thepan: ! Miata's are basically crap, but it isn't a "chick" car. If you want to see a chick car, check out the Mercedes-Benz SLK and SL lineup! If I had $55,000 to spend on a fun car, the Boxster would be at the top of my list! Elvis 09-24-05, 10:44 PM Don't insult the Boxster:thepan: ! Miata's are basically crap, but it isn't a "chick" car. If you want to see a chick car, check out the Mercedes-Benz SLK and SL lineup! If I had $55,000 to spend on a fun car, the Boxster would be at the top of my list! Do Boxsters cost THAT much? I thought they were in the $35,000 range, STICKER price, LOADED? I certainly wouldn't pay $55K for one. SLK is a chick car too. I agree. I know a chick who had one. Ralph 09-24-05, 10:48 PM According to this.....Porsche is one of the more "masculine" brands, although the Boxster is the lower version... http://www.forbes.com/home/vehicles/2005/05/23/cx_dl_0523feat.html Boxsters are about 55K HERE, so in the U.S. they would be cheaper when compared to U.S. dollar amount. Vesicant 09-24-05, 10:54 PM Elvis im with you on the XLR suggestion. Thats like having a Corvette as well. And with that, the SL or CL Class Mercedes-Benz are also the best modern mid life crisis rag' cars. :yup: The Porsche... any Porsche is quite the formatable option :highfive: tru504187211 09-24-05, 11:28 PM I thought the midlife crisis is usually a tan colored Buick? Blackout 09-25-05, 12:24 AM Miata's are basically crapHow is that? They're awesome autocrossing cars and they respond well to mods especially the first gen's since the motor is already for F/I since Mazda made the engine for a turbo application in Japan but we never got the turbo for it here. psykiv 09-25-05, 04:35 AM Or maybe this Koenigsegg CC8S from Sweden. 806 horsepower from a Ford V8. Bet you don't these every day. (Bugatti only just beat it out as the world's fastest production car). Perfect for when I get bored of my wife. http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/8600/092348ga.jpg (http://imageshack.us) I've been drooling over a koenigsegg since about 1999 (the first one, a concept, was out in 1998) :( Few things I thought I should clear up. Koenigsegg has two models, the CCR, which is a 806HP supercharged 4.7L V8, and the CC8S which is also a supercharged 4.7L V8. The difference? The CCR has a much better super charger, oh, and it costs $750,000; as opposed to the $350,000 that the CC8S costs. The rated top speed on the CC8S is 240mph, while the top speed on the CCR is in the 250MPH range, even though they have only been able to achieve 391 KPH (243MPH). According to guiness, it is the fastest production car in the world. Unfortunatly, the cc8s has been discontinued. :( Neither are street legal in the United States, but I have actually heard of a few of them in the US, I guess if you have enough money, nothing can really stop you from just importing one here and having all of the emissions work done here. Koenigsegg does not officially export to the US.. Id stick with the cc8s. As for the topic, best midlife crisis car, my vote goes to the corvette edit: one other thing, CC stands for "competition coupe" which is ironic because they also offer it in a convertible. the 8s refers to the engine configuration (8 cylinder supercharged) in CCR, I can only guess the r stands for "racing" or "rally" Ralph 09-25-05, 05:52 AM Are you sure that the CC8S has been discountinued, in fact, my friend ordered that magazine from Europe and it is brand new. (is there a link to show the discontinuation?) The Bugatti is the fastest production car right now and has been for a while hitting 248.5 mph. (guiness didn't recognize it...) "but the folks at Guiness don’t see it, is it still the fastest production car ever? The answer is, sort of. A stock Bugatti Veyron recently hit that top speed during several passes on a Volkswagen test track in Ehra-Lessien — breaking a previous record of 241mph set by a Koenigsegg CCR. The Veyron’s speed was measured by the German Homologation Authority, TÜV Süddeutschland, though to be named world’s fastest production car, performance must be validated by the Guiness Book of World Records. We’d tend to go ahead and trust a team of German scientists wielding precision chronometric instruments, rather than wait for a beer company to chime in. But we’re silly like that." http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/news/bugatti-hits-248mph-waits-for-validation-of-fastest-production-car-claim-121217.php http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/60259/driven_the_fastest_car_ever.html http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/bugatti1.htm And according to THIS, it even beat the 248.5...... SpeedyArizona 09-25-05, 12:02 PM Stock Miata's are crap, and I don't like Japanese Sushi Ricers either.... The most practical mid-life crisis car would have to be the CTS-V since you could accually haul something besides ASS:histeric: !! I checked on the Porsche USA website, and a BASE Boxster starts at $45,000 and the Boxster S starts at $55,000. Corvette would have to be the "normal" mid-life crisis car though. Subaru Impreza is NOT a mid-life crisis car, it's a car that you would NEVER want to be seen in. Its youthful, fast, handles very well, and it makes you feel 21 again, and youre right, i wouldnt want to be seen in one, but im not having a midlife crisis:D I had one in 1995 and bought a Bentley danbuc 09-25-05, 04:19 PM I see the Corvette is starting to win out. For me, if I had a mid-life crisis and wanted to buy a Corvette, it couldn't be just any Corvette. It would have to be somehting rediculously cool and fast like a Lingenfelter Twin-turbo 427, or a Callaway C4. Something outrageously dangerous and quick, that will make you feel like crapping yourself averytime you get on the throttle..hehe. A regular run of the mill Corvette just wouldn't cut it. psykiv 09-25-05, 09:55 PM Are you sure that the CC8S has been discountinued, in fact, my friend ordered that magazine from Europe and it is brand new. Ya too bad about that, and you were correct about it never being available in the U.S. I've even read that the Bugatti would go faster.....and apparently if you want to go over a certain speed (I think it's 200 mph?) you phone Bugatti, and they immediately fly in a special set of tires to install on the spot so you can proceed! I guess the French did something right. :shhh: ;) | |
