The CMP (CaMshaft Position sensor - the Acronyms sticky ^^) is bolted to the front of the right cylinder head directly in front of the exhaust cam sprocket. If you suspect that it is faulty, a connector and wiring check should be the first order of business.

In this drawing the engine is partially disassembled .....................

Yeah, quick trigger finger. In any case, the CMP reads a cam sprocket pulse.

It's at the camshaft position actuator solenoid housing. Visible with the beauty cover off.

Does anyone know about how much the dealer charges to reprogram the CPS after a self install? I heard this needs to be done in order to operate properly.

There are 4 camshaft position sensors on a RWD. So you are seeing two camshaft position sensors in the picture. The upper one is the intake side, and the lower one is the exhaust side.
