Hello, I want to change the plugs in my 89 Fleetwood but am unsure how to get at them. Any tips would be most appreciated. The car has a 4.5 liter engine. I also want to check the FPR, where is it located on the 4.5? Thanks, Shayne

Just twist the boots of plug wires really good then pull. FPR is on the fuel rale.

Thanks, I was thinking more along the lines of I can barely see these things, how am I going to get a wrench on them? Is it easier from underneath? Is there stuff I have to move out the way? That type of Thing My last Cadillac Was a 77 Eldorado, which was a little less overwhelming under the hood, if you know what I mean.

Nothing to move on a 4.9. You do it by feel. Reach back, pull a plug wire off, then get a socket with the appropriate extension and swivel on it to pull the plug. You kind of make it up as you go along.

I had to get some boot pullers, mine were on good. Make sure you put them back on with some silicone grease in the boot, not too much, but this will prevent them from locking on so tight. Too much and it creates a hydro seal and pushes right back off.

To get the plugs on the #2,4,6,8 cylinders you have to literally lay on the engine. Be prepaired to get a lot of scratches on your hands...

I just changed mine last weekend on my 87. Pick up some of the mechanics gloves at autozone or advanced. Definitely helps save some skin on your hands. Also get a 5/8 spark plug socket and a swivel socket and wrap the joints with electrical tape so it will still move but wont flop around when you try to thread the new plugs in. Hope this helps.

You can also remove the two front sub frame retaining bolts either side of radiator and lower the engine slightly with a floor jack. Allows more clearance because the engine tilts forward. Make sure floor jack is in position at the front of the sub frame first!
