Well didn't really "race him"... more like "stood still as he left me in the dust"... :thepan:

On the freeway...came up to him... drove along side for a while, gave him a thumbs up, he did the same... cool guy. I guess he got bored of driving along side... he downshifted, I downshifted... and he was like GONE... I didn't bother pursuing... there was no way.

What a car. What are they going for these days... $450K?

I've seen one driving on the way to calabasas.
It was a carrera gt getting chased by an 911 Turbo and E55.
Too bad I was driving the companies International 4700.
Boy, I wish I had the V even though I will still be left in the dust.

Sheesh, at least you guys have people who aren't afraid to drive their cars. Here in vegas I can't get anyone to step on it; only once did I race with a 600sl that I toasted on the interstate, but ever since that first kill I keep rolling up behind strippers in Z06's who've never seen WOT. Makes me want to scream. :banghead:

You could always buy a Z06. At the very least, it would be a lot closer.

Plus, after getting whupped by just a car length, you could do a drive by in the Z06 and show him a briefcase with $400,000 dollars in it that was still at your disposal.:lildevil:

The New Z06 should almost be dead even with GT.

Its just insane to imagine that GM can build a Z06 that is as good as it really is...really.
The GT is an Uber-Car, like the Enzo, special in a way that most cars could never be...but the new Z06 is a killer.

You would need a VERY talented driver to be able to take advantage of the Porsche's abilities to beat the Z06. Most people, on crash/cost-to-repair/fear alone wouldn't be able to wring out the top 2% of the GT on a road course.

And please people, do not start bringing up 1/4 mile times....running either car on a strip should be basis for lifetime revocation of driver's liscence and forever riding a public bus. These are race-cars...not sihtboxes with big engines.

We are comparing heads-up racing, however, given the choice, I would prefer a new Z06 and $370,000 in T-bills to a Carrera GT.

If you check, you'll see that the C6 Z06 and the Carrerra GT were almost dead even. And try to get two sets of golf clubs (or even one) into the GT.

Thanks for the pic, the wing on the Carrera GT looks ugly when it's raised...

From a roll the Carrera GT should walk the new Z06 (605hp vs. 505hp), and it beat the Z06 by a significant amount at the ring.

The GT is definately a sweet ride, but in the pic it really looks like those newer body MR-2's!! I know its just the pic, its a real site in person- very wide and low, not to mention fast and expensive.

Depends on what you define as "significant." Carrera GT has had a number of different runs at The Ring, while the Z06 has only one. But its 7:40 time puts it ahead of a lot of cars and almost even with a couple of GT runs.

BTW, the V also did The Ring. If I remember correctly, it was in a not-too-shabby 8:09 or so.

I must say, however, I have to agree with Vegas-V based on my limited time in Vegas the past 5 days...I couldn't get a SOLE to step on it; was rather pathetic.

I *thought* I might have had a run-in with a (what appeared to be) new Saleen Mustang, but the dude was on his cell phone and didn't even look over at me prompting him to step on it--even if only for a few feet!! :D

Good thing now I know...

The times that I was thinking of were the 7:28 for the GT and a 7:43 for the Z06. It looks like the GT is more of a low 7:30's car so on a shorter or normal length track the difference could be slightly less than 1 second per lap, a big gap at the pro level but really nothing for most amateur racing.

It's interesting that the difference between the new Z06 and the Carrera GT, is nearly identical to the difference between the CTS-V and the C5 Z06.

In order for a "human" to squeeze out the performance differential between the top cars, at any track, he/she would need quite a bit of time on such a track. Care to guess how many laps Mr.Rohrl has on the 'Ring? or Hans Stuck??? They spend careers on that track. Get some hot-shoe 'Ring pilot to beat the piss out of Z06 for a long enough time on the 'Ring...I mean really learn how the car takes EVERY turn, bump, JUMP, and such...and I'm willing to bet the difference wouldn't be too far off.

When you're talking Porsche or BMW drivers, factory test drivers, those guys are mutants. They can close their eyes and visualize the course and get within seconds of their actual times...that's how well they know the track.

The Carerra GT is a magnificent car, but for the cash, I'd buy something else...don't know what...but it just doesn't do it for me. But mind this fact...the same company that makes the GT's shocks make ours...think about that....

Hey Lawfive, I guess that was a Porsche GT2 (not quite a GT) I saw you tangle with..

I got some dude in a C5 Z06 to open it up on the Fwy over the weekend, that car was so fast I couldn't even catch his exhaust!

His license plate read

BLWN LS6, and it was.
