Finally retired the original F1s today after 17,400 miles.

Can you say drag radial? :)

I took mine to 22K. They looked a lot like Rick's, and they were hard as a rock. Probably contributed to the wheel hop problem in a big way.

Wow. You have guts to drive on those.

Nothing scary about those tires. Turn in is excellent with no tread block squirm. Did 70 mph in the rain; it was kind of fun.

Over half of those miles are interstate driving. If it were kept to "local" driving, the F1s would have been bald many moons ago.

Ok, here's what you do now...
Get yourself a bottle of FormulaV, the pink stuff from Jeg's. Sponge on about 4 coats until the tire won't suck up anymore. Put the wheels and tires in a plastic bag for 2 days to ripen. Open the bags and remove tires 12 hours before you need them. Mount the tires and experience the closest thing to R-compound run-flats that you can find!!!!

I would kill to have my tires in that shape without cooking them first. On an autox those would be killer....

seems to me that if you run em at about 25 psi you should be able to get a couple thousand more miles out of those two remaining tread grooves.

You obviously kept the pressures well maintained, nice even baldness all the way across!
