View Full Version : How do I know if I can do the Ipod-XM Mod? johnnybn 09-15-05, 10:27 PM I understand that there is a mod to your factory XM input that allows you to connect your iPod directly to the stereo, so you can bypass the FM-Crap-Odulator. I do not have factory XM, but I have the Bose system (without Nav). 2004 3.6l, anyone know if I still have the factory XM input sans the actual radio?
It's probably a stupid question, just wondered if anyone had an answer... Thanks!:) ctsvett 09-16-05, 01:59 AM working on it...Nothing yet though without the XM.

:bouncy: I recently installed the XM radio interface on my wife's CTS. This was from United Radio. I spoke to Mike and he stated that United Radio is working on an interface for the CTS radio and the iPod. Their web site is: www.radiosandmore.com (http://www.radiosandmore.com). Contact them and check their progress. If they can adapt an aftermarket XM system that plays and looks like "factory", I'm sure they'll come up with something for the iPod and other audio add-ons. ctsvett, thanks for the work you're doing on this. I'll be in line to do mine once you've completed.
Also, if radiosandmore is infact going to release an aftermarket solution, that is good news. Hopefully it isnt $300 though. You do not need the xm in order to do it. I have been doing them for over 6 months now.
DanDan -1- was just saying he installed the XM because he wanted to. However, can you elaborate on your statement? You've been installing ipods in cts' for over 6 months now? Or? johnnybn 09-17-05, 01:39 PM DanDan, please tell me how! The FAQ mod says you have to use the factory XM adaptor? Are you saying I have the input for XM even though I don thav ethe factory radio? Thanks! DanDan, please tell me how! The FAQ mod says you have to use the factory XM adaptor? Are you saying I have the input for XM even though I don thav ethe factory radio? Thanks!
:banghead: I understand your frustration wanting a "wired" audio input. I went through the same thing trying to find an "XM" solution for over two years. I believe United Radio will come through with a solution. There's a hugh market for audio inputs on factory car audio. Email them through their web site ( www.radiosandmore.com (http://www.radiosandmore.com) ) and get an update. A wireless solution in the interim (hopefully short term) is better than nothing at all. If you email United Radio, let us know what you find out. ctsvett 09-18-05, 01:37 AM EVERYONE who wants to integrate a ipod, WAIT... I spoke with a vendor who has a VERY exiciting product coming very soon... Wait a few weeks and send me an e-mail.
I am VERY excited about this... Its exactly what GM should have done, and I have been trying to do for a while....
Reed M STaR 013 09-18-05, 02:12 AM i like my FM transmitter. it's the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus. it's 79 bux, but it can even work over the local station frequencies. the sound is pretty good too, i'd say better than the factory XM radio sound. if anything, it is a quick setup for me for now until something pops up later. I've had a Scosche unit installed for a month, perfect solution.
Check Crutchfield.com, 2 products that fit the bill... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-79ELPJW8f7F/cgi-bin/prodgroup.asp?g=251550&est=&search=fm+modulator
Scosche FM-MOD01, Farenheit EFM-01
Both are FM Modulators, not to be confused with an FM Transmitter.
The FM modulator hardwires in line between the antenna lead and the stereo deck, also needs power and ground.
The modulator works similar to a transmitter where it hijacks a preset radio frequency. Because the modulator is hardwired wired in, there is zero external RF interference.
Most FM modulators have RCA in, a simple 1/8th stereo to RCA cable allows you to plug in an iPod or any other MP3 player or audio source with a 1/8th stereo output.
My MP3 player produces CD quality sound through the factory deck when connected to the FM modulator and stereo tuned to 87.9 or 88.3 FM. I have a base stereo with no XM option.
The install also requirs 2 VW style antenna adapters to fit the modulator in/out to the Cadillac antenna plugs. The entire install from Crutchfield cost me $45.00 EVERYONE who wants to integrate a ipod, WAIT... I spoke with a vendor who has a VERY exiciting product coming very soon... :helpless: Heed Reed's & Sam & Daves message and hold off a couple of weeks. A direct "connection" is better than any other solution. hocke230 09-23-05, 08:54 PM CTS VETT PLEASE LET ME KNOW when this comes out? for IPOD |
