I'm still working on my 500 rebuild, but at the present time I'm just trying to get a good amount of parts together so I have a few questions. Anybody know what the required cranking amps are for a 71 500? I looked in my shop manual and surprisingly it's not listed? Is it ok if you go over the required cranking amps? Also, I know of optima, but they are expensive. Are there any other good battery brands out there? Besided the battery I need a new fuel pump. I know of the stocker, those go for around 40 bucks at numerous places, but is it worth getting an aftermarket one? If so where can I find a good one? Same goes for water and oil pump (I know of flow-kooler but thats it). Thanks for any information out there...

Hey man, you can go over required cold cranking amps.

I think I remember reading 350 minimum somewhere.

I had a 460CA battery on it for awhile, it worked great. But it wore out fast when I needed to crank forever in the cold mornings (bad carb).
