Well...my BEAUTIFUL '92 Sixty Special was smashed about 2 weeks ago. A kid went to sleep and SLAMMED it while parked downtown. Of COURSE he gave me invalid insurance information...so my insurance is having to cover it. It was such a beautiful car...:crying2:

My question... How do I go about getting an accurate appraisal on a Sixty Special? There are almost none on the market...and it's not a regular Fleetwood. The car was spotless...near perfect condition. I bought it from an estate...it has 80K miles. Deep Garnet over burgundy... It looks like there were less than 50 made in that color combination for '92. I had gone through the A/C system...fixed the seats...suspension...etc. I've had a lot of cars...and this was definitely my favorite.

Any advise is certainly appreciated. While I know it wasn't a collectors item just yet...it was my baby and I want what it is worth!:stirpot:

First off, remember you've ONLY driven it 6,000 miles a year. NEVER say 80,000 miles, it sounds too high and slams it right into daily driver mental catagory.
Next, Insurance companies all suck! I hate them. Crooks, all of them. It's too bad you didn't have it with Grundy Classic Car insurance. They'd pay you whatever you stated it was worth, to you. Mine is insurred for $18,000 & costs me $249.00 @ yr. for better coverage than I have on my '03 Town Car daily driver.

What part of the car is hit? Before I'd worry about what the insurance company is gonna pay or do for you, I'd worry about securring parts! Alot of appearance items are all gone.
That is a shame & I feel for you. That is also the why of it as to why I take all the ribbing about NOT using mine and storing it. One @$$-hole can make it scrap metal in 2 seconds.

IF you have Palasides Ins. Co. you are truly #ucked !

~ Six Special Mountain: Sorry to hear of your situation! I'm just finishing up a claim with State Farm. My Daughters '94 Honda Civic EX was stolen and trashed. SF came up with $2800 as the figure they said was reasonable and fair value for the rig. After a month of negotiating and presenting documented comparisons, SF paid $6,000 for a reasonable and fair replacement cost. I had to Work for It! Took lots of time and frustration to do so. Stick to your guns and try as hard as you can to document comparison vehicles to back your $ claim!

~ On another note, my daughter was moving back home from college when this happened. Insurance will not cover CD's and the Car Insurance would not cover 98% of Her Personal Property! Fortunately my Home Owners Insurance (Renters Coverage will pay too) came into play for personal property but then it was the same situation with proof of ownership, replacement cost verses deducting for depreciation and another deductible we are in month four of settling that!? Please Note that most insurance companies Do Not Cover CD's, DVD's, Tapes etc. in your Rig!? My Daughter had 105 CD's in her rig at $15 average per CD that's $1,575 Dollars! That's a Big Hit! Check with your Insurance carrier to your total coverage! If they don't, keep the # down on what you carry in your Rig!

~ I agree with Sandy, if these Rigs are our Baby's, Sufficient Insurance Coverage Should Be Noted! If your Rig Can be Rebuilt and She is your Baby then you need to find out immediately what/where parts are available and work hard with your insurance company to do so for you. Documentation of Like Rigs Value will help in this venture too!

Good Luck

Skullman, what happened ?? Your "rig" join up with the KKK ? Are there "eye holes" in the front of that ?

I hate it when I hear of Fleetwoods and/or Sixty Special getting hit. They are the most beautiful of all Caddies and the end of the Traditional Old School Caddy-look. The end of the chrome bumpers, vinyl tops, landau tops, Fleetwood Coupes, Coupe De Villes,Opera Lamps, Ital House Design Interiors (60Specials & Ultras) so so much more good old stuff !

Take care that Coupe !!

When my 96 fleetwood brougham got trashed the insurence company paid out $10.5K to me. And I only spent 6200 on it.

Well...in all this mess they can't FIND my car. The other insurance company towed it somewhere...and the IDIOTS at my company (Encompass is the name...the last 3 letters fit) can't be bothered with finding it. :lies:

My best friend is a senior partner at one of the oldest law firms in Dallas. He LOVED the car and said he will get involved if necessary. I'll fight over this one...

Sandy...my Ultra interior was near PERFECT... the headliner...seats...dash...wood...the car had rarely sat outside when the little old lady had it. The starburst wheels just sparkled... We used it as the limo for my nieces wedding...people had fits over it. At least I have those pictures......:crying2:

Fight them to fix it. It can be fixed to better than new - **IF** you can get the parts that are needed.

Six Special Mountain,

Sorry to hear about what happened! That is horrible. I hope you win your insurance battle and can fix her up like new again. Any pictures? (before)

I'm afraid it's a total loss. The left rear pillar is buckled as well as the door. I think it got the suspension as well. To repair it...the rear would have to be cut off and another rear cap sewn on. My brother has a body shop and cringed at the idea of the repair.:banghead:

I'm attaching a picture...hopefully it comes through. There is a BEAUTIFUL low mileage 93 Sedan deVille in my home town...white/navy cabrio roof/white leather for sale. I may look into that. I just have always been a Fleetwood kind of guy (have a 76 Brougham sitting in the barn).

I just do not see it. Unless you have FRAME damage, you need a door skin, a trunk lid and a quarter panel. I'd put it at $6,800.00

I have to agree with Sandy, I've seen far worse with frame damage repaired to 'like new' condition. Insurance companies are there to rip you off, its how they stay in business, fight for every cent you think you're owed.

Do what my friend did, his Mitsu Ecilpse was hit and the insurance claimed it was a total loss and paid him what it was worth, he then bought the car off them for $1,800.00 as a total loss sale and sold parts and finally what was rest of the car for a total gain of $5k+ in pocket. He also could of taken a large chunk of the insurance money and repaird the car and still be in pocket for a few grand, but he wanted a new car altogether.

If I knew it could be back to normal... The rear pillar is buckled...and it must have hit hard from underneath as the trunk is all buckled inside...there are tools I couldn't get out of the back. I had gotten to use my new power trunk pull down TWICE before it was mangled.

I have considered keeping it...finding a regular Fleetwood and converting it. But...I am a purist at heart I guess. I have a BMW 735i that's getting a new engine...and have a Volvo 960 to drive for a while. Who knows...

Trust me. It can not only be fixed.....it can be fixed better than 5 minutes BEFORE it got hit. At the factory, it was mostly machine built. When it gets fixed, now, it will be hand built. I have seen happen what others cannot mentally imagine. I have seen Sedan de Villes turned into station wagons, I have seen 1977/78/79 & 80 Couoe DeVilles turned into convertibles, I have seen Town Cars lose their side rear doors, become coupes, and then have their tops removed to become 2-door convertibles.......

IF IF IF IF You want the car as it was (IT CAN BE) ~ then you have to become the most stubborn guy in the USA. You let them know that YOU want YOUR car BACK the WAY it WAS before THE accident, PERIOD !

You have paid insurannce for XX number of years and YOU were not at fault and you were hit by a driver that fell asleep and and and and ......

If you feel you can't do it, hire a hot head aggressive laywer. They'll total it & give you $5,500. What ya gonna do with that? Down stroke on a Kia ???

~ OK, I have to agree with Sandy! Your damage does Not look worse than the Damage I had on my 1990 BMW 525 back on Christmas Eve 1995 when a One Ton Truck rear ended us at 45 miles an hour, it threw the Bimmer 35 feet into the intersection and tore my rotator cuff! Insurance paid over $10k dollars to fix it, mind you that's in 1995 dollars. My 19 year old Nephew is driving it back in forth to college and hauling his Skate Boarding Buddy's all over Cali! It has over 250k miles on it and still looks sweet! You need to HAMMER the Insurance Company that YOU Want it Fixed! The Big Problem will be the availability of Parts But and it's a Big But, but it is Do-able! YOU need to get Online and Find the Parts!

Ps: It's comes down to really how much YOU want it back or just give in and drive that KIA that will replace it!?
