Why does this forum seem so slow. :eyebrow: I'm on a T1 line and it seems to be a lot slower than any other website I visit. I thought upgrading the site was going to make it faster. :hide: I was just wondering...other than that this site ROCKS! :worship:

Joey - Not to explain the speed of the forum (as I don't speak for them), a T1 is a nice Internet pipe, but in all fairness it is not really that fast any more.

If you understand the Internet speeds then disregard this little explanation of it, if not I hope this helps you or others.

Most (west coast) home cable connections now have a 4 Mbps or greater down pipe (you pull information from the Internet), and a 256 - 512 Kbps up pipe (you push information to the Internet). A T1 is 1.5 Mbps each way. Now about 2 years ago I would say a T1 was plenty of Internet pipe for someone, but as web servers and their applications get more advanced, and serve more people there is just that much more information to send back and forth. One other thing to consider is the Internet connection the forum server has to the Internet. You might have a OC-255 (13,219.200 Mbps) 8812 times faster than a T1 but the forum server could only be on dial up (56 kbps) and your connection would be a portion of the 56 kbps.

Well hopefully this was helpful information.

It's not the internet line that's causing the delay.. it's the forum application and the server it's sitting on....

one... this forum is very image intensive
two... as nicely packaged as this forum software bundle is... whoever wrote this POS..... obviously didn't take into consideration "performance"
three.. it's quite possible the connection to this forums server could be the bottleneck, but i thought it was co-lo'd or being hosted at a facility, which in that case we could probably rule out being the line.

Is it really getting slow again? As slow as before? Yes, the software we use here is very server intensive.. I've considered going the "ZeroForum" route - faster software. Examples are here:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/
http://www.honda-tech.com/

It's much faster but it's less feature-rich (of course, making it faster).

This server is dedicated and being hosted at a facility.

Another reason for the slowdown (which I personally don't notice) is that we're getting almost twice the traffic with the new server. As far as I know, the pages loaded much slower before - and that restricted our traffic quite a bit. People would come here and just leave - and/or stop visiting altogether. Since the new server came along, we're getting more and retaining new traffic...

ZeroForum is good... very quick... but it's built in search engine.. not so hot.

Right. That's why CorvetteForum.com moved to vBulletin... It seems Troy actually felt the search feature was more important than forum speed...
