View Full Version : Anyone modify their brake lights?

Hi guys,

One thing that I've always liked are LED lights. I like the STS for this reason.

I was wondering if anyone changed their rear brake or parking lights to those aftermarket ones that have a cluster of LEDs in them.

Anyone ever do anything like this? I'm wondering if the results were successful...

Thanks,

Mike

I know what you mean but have never seen any for the CTS. Tomm is our resident LED expert. Maybe he will have some ideas.

LED lights are way cool, but why does the CTS not already have them? Are they that much more expensive? They last longer, use less energy, why not have them?

THE CTS USES BULBS.

THE CTS USES BULBS.

You are SHOUTING Bob!!!!! Its a legitimate question!

All you have to do is buy LED replacement lights at the auto parts store. They are right there next to the replacement bulbs.

OR if you are handy with a soldering gun and wiring, then you could make your own LED array that would fit into the rear taillight compartment.

Yeah I know the CTS already uses bulbs, but my question is why it doesn't use LED's. For the Standard of the World I would think it would use LED's. I'm sure somday it will, but why not right now? And a replacement LED cluster bulb isn't the same as the panel used on STS and DTS.

I'm shouting :dammit: Most of the forms I use here at work require the cap lock. By time I realize it's still on I say the hell with it..only JT will notice.:yup:

This is by far the weirdest thing I have ever seen posted on here. A forum requiring the use of cap lock? Thats :cookoo:

Hi guys,

I think the CTS uses bulbs for ONE reason, and ONE reason only.

...To make the STS that much more attractive and prestigious.

I'd have to say it's a prestige/masstige marketing decision, not a cost or technical decision.

Ditto for the headlamps. Don't STS's have Xenons for high and for low beams.

By the way, I was just talking about those bulbs with the cluster of LEDs. Nothing fancy.

But I wondered how they would look.

I know that on a Trans Am they look horrible, because you see a concentrated circle on the smoked covers.

So i have a feeling that with the CTS it will either be an AWESOME appearance or a crappy one. Hence the thread...

...maybe someone's done it......

it's not too uncommon, actually. stupid? thats a different story.

my old office job at a trucking agency required all the software be filled out with caps. it was a bitch talking on AIM and all that crap too. i think it's pretty standard.

scientifically, i have no idea why. other than lower case looks sloppy and if you only capitolize the first letters and important things, it takes WAY more time to flip flop. plus, people are morons and never know what to capitolize in the first place. ie nouns, names...they just stick them anywhere.

**Edit** remember, he said FORMS, not FORUMS. i'm assuming he's working perhaps. selective reading...:tisk:

LED tail light bulbs would make sense, since they're a plug-n-play replacement, but they're not cheap (but would be cheap to build). The CTS dash lights are all LED's, it would have made sense to make all of the other 'bulbs' LEDs too, like the STS.

Bulbs would be about $1 each in parts to build, but they run something like $20/pr at the stores.

I was looking to upgrade my boat from bulbs to LEDs for power reduction and lifetime issues, but for marine bulbs they cost something like $80 each!

Yep! Sounds like another one of those mods that will void your warranty.:histeric:
Why your whole electrical system, on-board computers, air bags, nav & sound systems . . . all at risk because YOU tampered with the factory light bulbs! :crying2:
Not to mention that modifying lighting devices violates state vehicle code laws and conflicts with Title 49 U.S.C. under the M.V.S.S. :suspense:
You boys are in a heap of trouble!! :cop:

Just remeber one thing if buying replacement LED lights buy red ones. I sell LED light for police vehicles and if putting in red lense use red LED's not clear ones or they will not show up

Thanks for the advice!

I am still looking for a guinea pig!

It will either look AMAZING, and everyone will start doing it, or it will look terrible, and nobody will.

We shall see who does it first!
