Hi all, i have a 98 deville that is my sunday car only 38k on it, anyway i do notice about 1000 miles after an oil change it needs a quart, mechanic told me he had one and they are known to just use oil, is that true? Car has no obvious signs of oil leaks, no smoke, no overheating, etc.

Some engines use oil, some don't. My 2002 STS gets well over 6,500 miles/quart and I do NOT baby it - it's a garage queen like yours now, but when it runs it RUNS.

There is a GM/Cadillac TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that specifically references Northstar oil consumption, piston ring cleaning and proper oil level. Google "cadillac technical service bulletin 01-06-01-011D".

Go up to the Technical Archives at the top left of the page and read up on "Oil Consumption". It was written by a GM powertrain engineer.
