My ins co classified my 2005 CTS as C/T CTS High Feature V6. Just called and was told that my 3.6 is an high performance car based on VIN. I thought it would be for CTS-V only. Am I wrong???? Love that car, though.

GM does refer to the 3.6 VVT V6 as "High Feature V6". I'd like to know what constitutes the CTS as a high performance car. The rating would have to be based on a HP/weight ratio, but with 255HP/3600lbs, I'd hardly call that "high performance".

Maybe time to switch insurance if you think you're being unfairly classified.

I was told at my recent renewal that there was some safety/crash test study that came out and because of the CTS' performance, my premium was slightly adjusted higher. It wasn't enough to cause me to cancel, but I was kinda curious as to what study they (GEICO) was talking about. I never followed up, but I thought the CTS got pretty good marks as far as those safety tests......

I am with 21st Century and have until Sept 28th to switch. Is there anybody who can recommend other competitive ins co that offers fair price? My 6 month premium is $760 for my Caddy and '84 RX-7 GSL-SE w/o collision. I am right here in Southern California if that makes any difference. My thinking is that Cadillac drivers are generally safe drivers with the exception of our few fun CTS drivers. More feedback, please

My wife (23) and I (27 next month) pay $205 a month w/2 05' cars. Obviously I have the CTS, she has a Chevy Equinox SUV. My coverage is 300K 100K I believe b/c mine is a lease and we have to have the same coverage. Anyway, we go through Unitrin Direct. They are out of Cali and we are in FL.Check them out http://www.unitrindirect.com/ . Never had any problems with them and their customer service is actually pretty nice.

geico is all you had to say for high premiums. I have tried to get a decent quote many times over the years with them. They always advertise X% lower rates. I have never gotten a quote of less than 50-300% higher than anyone else!!! I have no tickets or accidents, 3 cars with home owners insrance, and 40 years old. GEICO blows!!

I actually am researching Unitrin Direct and thinking about switching, they are quite affordable. I am trying to get an insurance rating and any outstanding complaints with the BBB. Anybody have any complaints? I currently have GMAC, thier customer services is horrible, and they love to raise rates every six months.:mad2:

I'm with State Farm Insurance. The rates have not went up. I have 3 cars and my home listed plus a clean record so I do get a discount. It cost me about $700 annually. Where you live is VERY important. Small rural towns vs big cities relate to crime and stolen cars. The type of car is a factor. Engine and theft popularity are a part.

I have and had State Farm for over 25 yrs. I have never found anyone who is cheaper in my area. Sure I have had agents quote me less but the coverage is also less. Right now I am paying the same for the 2005 CTS as I was paying for the 2002 Trans Am WS LS1 (sports car). The reason is that the CTS is worth more than the WS6 was (wholesale was 16000 at the time)

As for Geiko, I have taken the bait from them and found I would pay about 40% more for the same coverage from them that I get from State Farm. They still send me offers all the time, just tossed on this week.

Where you live, what you use the car for and the miles you drive all factor into the cost. Use for work, pay more, drive over the national average of 12,000 mile/yr, pay more.

Another thing most people do not know about car insurance is that you could total the car today and not get enough money to pay it off. Every second you own it, it is depreciating. You may have paid 40g for it last week and your insurance adjuster may tell its now worth 30g. My nephew got the shaft when his 3 week old truck was totalled by a drunk driver. His loan was more than the insurance was going to pay. So, he lost the truck and still owed on it. You need gap insurance if you are at risk. You heard of the GM emp plan, well the insurance adjuster was paying about 2-3g less than that. He paid closer to sticker for the popular 4x4 truck. insurance does not care what you paid, it what they say its worth. My CU offers gap insurance.

$1644.40 with GEICO for 6 mos on my 04 CTS and wife's 01 Toyota RAV 4. Have a call in to my agent to see if I can get a lower premium for my 100/300 BI; 50 PD and 30/60 uninsured with rental and mechanical breakdown....Oh yeah, south LA zip code, not 90210...LOL

I replaced an '01 supercharged Buick Regal GS with an '04 CTS and got a rate increase for a high performance car. I had the same reaction as others, that they must be thinking about the CTS-V. When I called GE Insurance(now defunct) they told me that they knew the difference. I suspect that the Cadillac ads that feature aggressive driving are as much to blame as anything else. I never met an insurance company that didn't like a rate increase.

Car insurance is a subject that gets me all steamed up. I pay almost $6500 per year with Progressive, and that is about the best rate I can find. My problem is that I have my '05 CTS, '05 SRX, and an '05 Malibu all leased. The next problem I have is these 3 vehicles are for myself, my wife and 2 teenage daughters. None of us have any tickets or accidents on record. This is a LEGAL RIP OFF!

I really get upset when I realize that I'm paying as much a month for car insurance as I am for my wifes SRX.

N.J. Manufacturers. I have full coverage. ($300K/$100K, $200 deductable)

...2 teenage daughters.

maybe it's time they start helpin' pops out......(riiiight)

i imagine it must be tough. you're a good guy for doing that. i can't believe my dad did it for my sister and i as long as he did. plus vehicles for him and my mom. insurance is ridiculous. although with the shear amount of 'tarts out there...it's probably needed. minority dictates the majority, big suprise.

i have a completely clear record (suprisingly), and it's still expensive because i'm young. 1 more year and i'll be lovin' that rate decrease.

True! Slightly off topic but I saw a report on CNN where these insurance companies won't even step up and pay on some of these claims in the Gulf Coast and are making distinctions between damage between "flood damage" and "hurrican damage" so as not to pay out on claims....

I'm with AIG. About $1200 a year for an '04 CTS and '02 F150 SCrew, less than Allstate, State Farm, and Geico for the same coverage (300/100/300 250 deductible with towing and rental reimbersment). I actually have homeowners insurance with Allstate and still pay less for the AIG even with the Allstate "discount" - go figure. I tried the "package deal" of home and auto with all the above-mentioned companies and I'm getting the best rates by splitting them up. Crazy!

As for the Gulf Coast, I can understand what the insurance companies are doing (but I don't necessarily agree with it). I live in Louisiana and when you buy land here, you are given a rating of what type of flood zone the land is in. If you are in anything less than a 50-year flood zone (meaning it is prone to flood once every 50 years) and want to finance the land, you will NOT get a loan until you have acquired flood insurance. It is strongly recommended for many areas here regardless of the flood rating due to the mass quantities of low-lying land in the region. Should the insurance companies pay for this? I don't know, but someone needs to step up and help these people out. It is a terrible, terrible situation around here.
