View Full Version : I cant believe it.... It's been 8 months since I purchased my CTS and listed below are all the problems I have had with this damn car!
1. Ooops I have had 0 problems
I guess I felt that since everone with problems is very vocal about their issues I would also post that I have had none.
So far in the 8 months that I have owned my 05 CTS I have not had any issues except for my tires rubbing when I changed them for bigger rims and tires but this is not a Cadillac issue to me because I decided to get larger tires so I spent the $50 and rolled the rear tire wells and the problem is gone. Nothing else that I can complain about. Amen! All my problems have been small. If you listen to all the complaints about different cars on different forums, you'd be riding a bicycle. RobertCTS 09-13-05, 12:57 PM 2 years, 20,000 miles, one failed sensor. That's it! A pretty short list.:p '05, one year, 10,500 miles, and some dirt stains on the carpet!!! Oh, and occasionally some rain spots on the black paint. Tyler80 09-13-05, 01:19 PM It's a good thing not everyone is having problems. I'm glad to see those who are problem free. Makes me feel better about buying a CTS. Hopefully I'll be like you guys with zero problems! canaveral 09-13-05, 01:19 PM When you don't have major failures you tend to focus on the smaller annoyances. I have had the dealer fix a couple of minor glitches with my car. I was pleasantly surprised that they not only did the work in a first rate manner but also provided me with transportation.
A car is a complex machine that and can be troublesome. Being able to rely on the dealer to perform the necessary repairs becomes more important than the actual problem. I see that Cadillac is starting to rebuild that trust. No comment...........
JET TripleOught 09-13-05, 01:23 PM do your dealers call you for checkups? i took my car in when i wanted the rubbing looked at, plus some other little things. after they released it, about a week or so later, i got a call from the dealer asking me how the car was running, if there was an improvement, and if there was anything else they needed to do. i thought that was pretty cool. not sure if thats the norm in the industry, but this was my first new car so i was impressed at the gesture. do your dealers call you for checkups? ... i got a call from the dealer asking me how the car was running, if there was an improvement, and if there was anything else they needed to do. i thought that was pretty cool. not sure if thats the norm in the industry, but this was my first new car so i was impressed at the gesture.
A smart dealership does this, they have open lines of communication, talk to the customer with thier prefered title, dr, mr. miss, or even first name basis... they will call to checkup on the car and the owner and remind you of schedualed maintinence and service bullitens. Yesterday my dealership sent me a card wishing me a happy birthday, a small, but nice gesture. Little things like that can go a long way to having life long relationships with a specific dealership, and retain a customer base for years to come. No where is this more important than new car sales, and service, just look at dealerships who say "That's normal, that's how it's supposed to be" when we all know (like rear end differential whining) isn't normal.
Another example, I called my dealership, Ralph's Cadillac in Dartmouth, about the Onstar (analon->digital) upgrade issue, they weren't aware of any upgrades or service bullitens in regards to it, but unlike some dealerships that people on this forum have delt with who didn't care and just said "call onstar", mine took the time and effort to talk directly with Cadillac and Onstar to get numbers, pricing and information which was relayed back to me quickly and in a friendly, pressure free way.
Just a few examples of what makes a dealership effective and have higher customer retention/satisfaction rates. My front suspension shock absorbers have been replaced twice on my '03 with 30,000 miles. I don't think ANY problems should occur within the first 5 years. Anymore I think people are too complacent and think problems are ok. That, along with the fact that many American's replace their cars within 5 years have made American automakers build less reliable cars while maintaining high prices. In the short time that I've been a member on this forum, I've read way too many problems with Cadillacs. GM needs to step it up if they want the prestige of Cadillac to remain. Tyler80 09-13-05, 02:02 PM Speaking of Birthday's AsAkAs, I believe you and I shared one yesterday. Happy Birthday! Speaking of Birthday's AsAkAs, I believe you and I shared one yesterday. Happy Birthday!

Don't forget that this is an online automotive forum, and generally when people post they are asking about A.) Modifications and B.) Possible mechanical problems.
Go to any automotive forum dedicated to a specific model of car and you will always without fail find posts talking about mechanical/electrical or other car problems. It's the nature of the internet/forums themselves
Point in case: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php I've been trouble free too but I'm not a big complainer either. The little things don't bother me like the "boring" interior or "cheap" window buttons. TripleOught 09-13-05, 03:17 PM exactly. coming from an electrical engineering background, believe me i know shit happens. electronics can be extremely tempramental or virtually industructible. just the nature of the beast. i could care less when my sunroof/moonroof (whatever) switch needed to be replaced. if it wasn't under warranty i'd of bought it and just done it. now, a rear-end or trans...i would hope those would be slightly less common, but still completely susceptible... OldRoadDawg 09-13-05, 06:36 PM It's been 12 months of ownership and over 15,000 miles I've put on mine after buying it with 9700 miles already on it. It was an MCO vehicle (GMAC exec car) that now has a total of 25,000 miles. "Zero, nada, zilch, zip problems or complaints." Nothing has broke or malfunctioned'
OK . . . the Luxury pkg suspension was too soft, but I changed it over to the Sport suspension. And I don't like the 130 mph speed limiter. Well, another 145 HP would be nice. :histeric: texaspi 09-13-05, 07:12 PM bought my '05 CTS 4 months ago-4500 miles, 24mpg average zero problems:thumbsup: :yup: We've had my wife's new '03 CTS since June 2003. During the first week, I noticed oil spots in the garage. Oil was dripping from underneath the engine(3.2L). Took to local dealer, fix was "tightened" oil filter. I was skeptical of the fix. A week later, same old sh*t. Took back to dealer, replaced front main seal on engine. Brand new car, what else? Bottom line, two plus years later, NO other problems at all. First American car we've had in 25 years. TCSisOFF 09-14-05, 04:31 AM It's been 8 months since I purchased my CTS and listed below are all the problems I have had with this damn car!

Unfortunately, the trusting Cadillac customers who bought 03's and 04's have tons of issues, but thanks for rubbing it in our faces! :hmm:
Also, check that resale value on your "problem free" 05 and you'll see that you're getting screwed even though your car is perfect.. Unfortunately, the trusting Cadillac customers who bought 03's and 04's have tons of issues, but thanks for rubbing it in our faces! :hmm:

With any car the first and second year of any new model always has issues and that is to be expected. The resale value loss is no different than any other car that I have owned. My last car was a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII which was a $38K car. I sold it when I bought my 2005 CTS and I got less than $4000 for it (Private Party) and it was in very good condition. I am sure this car will be much better than that. RobertCTS 09-14-05, 08:25 AM Don't forget that this is an online automotive forum, and generally when people post they are asking about A.) Good point. I went over to the Lexus camp. Golly, a bunch of whiners, just like us.:histeric: Tyler80 09-14-05, 09:59 AM Yeah I did the same thing, lots of problems. No car is perfect! rockledge 09-14-05, 10:04 AM Because of changing jobs back in May, I'm now into my second (first was leased by old company) 05 CTS.
First was a 3.6L Luxury. Put 7500 miles on it in 6 months, no problems except had some whining when I turned the wheel hard. Didn't have it serviced before I turned it over to my old company so I have no idea what this was. Also, my wife scratched it parallel parking.
Presently have the 3.6 sport package with everything in it. 4000 miles in two months, no problems. This car is sick and I cannot stay out of it. I have banned my wife from driving it.
I love this forum because I find the problem solving very informative.
By the way, my dealer is Lindsay Cadillac in Alexandria, Va. and everything they do is first class. I almost hope I get a service issue because the experience I have there is similar to being a member at a private club. Those people go way out of their way to make me happy. TripleOught 09-14-05, 10:31 AM Also, my wife scratched it parallel parking.
 no comment. rookie_ou812 09-14-05, 05:09 PM Bought my 05 CTS with Nav in July. 18,000 kilometres on it now and only complaint is those damn bugs sticking to my front end :)
Rear end whines a little, but it is acceptable to me. Great car with lots of class and great eyeball.
See ya later gang...DTRKB
Thats " Down the road Killing bugs"
Rookie Let me add my 2003 3.2 @ 24,000 miles: NO PROBLEMS AT ALL
Resale values on all new cars are bad. A new car is a terrible investment.
I going to do the best thing you can to avoid losing money on cars-keep my purchased car for a long time. SuperCrew 09-14-05, 05:27 PM '04 CTS purchased in October '03 - no major problems to date, but some minor irritations:
1. bad sensor
2. rear door lock not working
3. rear window went down and won't come back up - came off track
4. 2 recalls thus far, one for PCM reprogram and I can't remember the other
Pretty short list considering the second year of production for this car. The wife and I really enjoy it and are looking into an STS when this lease is up. Visitor 09-14-05, 10:20 PM My six speed 05 has been entirely problem free also.
5.6k miles and counting. | |
