View Full Version : Buying it tomorrow! SpeedyArizona 09-12-05, 11:12 PM I've gone through Cadillac.com and built my car, and tomorrow I'm going to the dealership. The CTS seems to be perfect for me, and I like the interior (lot better than my old Eldorado one). I don't plan on getting the Navigation System, mainly due to the extra $2000 from the U2S Infotainment System.
These are My Build Specs:
2006 Cadillac CTS
3.6L V6
Light Platinum Exterior
Cashmere Interior
5 Speed Automatic
U2S Infotainment System (without Navigation)
Sunroof

MSRP is $37,000
Invoice should be around $35,000
I plan on getting the CTS for less than $35,000. Also, if anyone can convince me that the Navigation System is worth $2000 more, I'd like to hear it! Congratulations!
Save the $2k and buy a good lap top and GPS software or Palm for 1/4 the price. You can take that stuff with you and still use them for other things too.
Watch out for a thread floating around here about how boring the interiors are to some folks.
Enjoy your new ride.
Don't forget to read the Owner's Manual. RobertCTS 09-13-05, 08:14 AM I've gone through Cadillac.com and built my car, and tomorrow I'm going to the dealership. You're passing up the new sport package with sport suspension, 18" wheels and colored grill. IMO a mistake. Very difficult and expensive to add later.
No Matter..just glad to see you getting into a Cadillac of your dreams. Now we can start telling you how to spend more $$$ making your CTS even better!:yup: Maybe he can't swing it right now. Good to see there will be yet another new member on board w/us. Tyler80 09-13-05, 10:34 AM The GMBuyPower website is weird right now, when you click to build a 2006 they don't have the Luxury Packages available and the sport wheel packages are not available either. You can only pick the infotainment packages and wether or not your want a sunroof. I wish they'd get their act together! TripleOught 09-13-05, 10:40 AM i think they are still going through some updates and changes with that new website. i wanted to build an sts-v for the hell of it but they didn't add the V-builds for the sts or xlr yet.
when you go to the dealer definitely make sure to mention it. if i were you i would definitely try to spot the extra $$ for the luxury sport. you will not be disappointed with the suspension, wheels, and added goodies to show off to your friends. RobertCTS 09-13-05, 10:43 AM Can't you go to www.edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com) and build a car? Last year you could and you'd see the invoice cost also. Tyler80 09-13-05, 10:54 AM Yeah you can, but I don't like using them because their system doesn't stop you from selecting options that conflict with other options like the gmbuypower site does. And things are listed multiple times, for reasons I know not. So I just find building directly from a GM site is much nicer. But I'm still irked as to why the info isn't up and running the day the initial information is given out for the new models. TripleOught 09-13-05, 11:00 AM yeah thats pretty frustrating if you ask me. something that small and minute could really delay or deter someone from pursuing one. working across the board and now in engineering...its just imperative that you make things as clear and easy as possible. stick with the intuitive approach and for god's sake make sure all the information is included. i just checked it...definitely not there. i'd say those were very important features that need to be updated... Do yourself a big favor and upgrade to the STS..........

better upgrade to a second job while you're at it... Tyler80 09-13-05, 11:15 AM Yeah, an STS is too expensive for me! But the CTS is perfect! Define "expensive" for me...........
JET Tyler80 09-13-05, 02:06 PM Expensive as in for me, buying more then I can afford to buy, not a good financial decision. RobertCTS 09-13-05, 02:31 PM Sometimes "Expensive" means it's more than you're willing to spend. I could have afforded a CTS-V but was unwilling to spend another $10,000. It wasn't a good value to me. TripleOught 09-13-05, 03:22 PM right on. i could have walked away with an sts-4 but i figured i didn't want to be living in a small cardboard box, even if it had a great location.
less we forget that usually with a more expensive ride not only are we increasing the car expenditure, but normally also the insurance. all these factors reeeaaally start to add up. that, to me, is the defenition of expensive. living outside your current means so you're no longer living "comfortably" BishopRuger 09-13-05, 04:03 PM Yeah I think people forget that your not just paying what the sticker price says.. U have to figure in sales tax, insurance, maybe extended warrenty cost, gas, cash downpayment if any. All of that does add up rather quickly.. Before u know it that monthly car payment can be HIGH. I sure we all could afford something more considering we bought a CTS to begin with but if u dont factor in all those things above plus your other bills i.e. rent or mortage, Cell phone, gym, house insurance, home phone bill, college loans, C.C. debt, man u can get urself in trouble.
And no way does the dealership give a ish about u, they'll try and sell u the biggest baddest car.. I say if this is your first new car bring someone with you when u go to purchase. Whether your a man or not.. When I went I had like 3 or 4 sales reps trying to get me to purchase it was crazy. pjohnesq 09-13-05, 04:25 PM I've gone through Cadillac.com and built my car, and tomorrow I'm going to the dealership. Sounds like my basic choices, except I ditched the sunroof and went with the stabilitrak/sport suspension as an option. Every once in a while I wish I had the Nav, but for now Yahoo maps and a printer prior to road trips works fine. TripleOught 09-13-05, 04:26 PM i thought i was going to be way bulley'ed or discriminated against since i was younger, and often fit the punk part with my short spikey hair. ironically, the dealer was extremely nice, and we conversed in a real laid back fashion, just like i was talking to one of my buddies. when i asked about test driving he was enthusiastic and damn near gave me the keys before he had my driver's license. i went back 3 times to test drive different models and never got one ounce of resistance. they willingly answered all the PILES of questions i had, and untimately it lead me to buy from them. on the pushing a more pricey options, they made sure i knew what was available above and beyond the lux sport cts but after i simply told them i couldn't afford a V or sts at the time, we pretty much left it at that. it hurt to not walk away with the infrared V they had on the lot though...ouch. RobertCTS 09-13-05, 04:28 PM I always researched my cars well. I knew what the sticker was, the invoice price and the rebates and incentives. I allowed $250 profit. I always get my deal. Sometimes I have to start to walk away but they call me back. Hell the Dealers gets a 3% holdback on the gross price. He's still making a lot of money. I usually have my salesman picked out. I use to drive Pontiacs, moved up to an Eldorado then my CTS. All at the same dealership and the same salesman. We both know what to expect.:yup: I dunno, expensive to me is being without a vehicle, stranded, or waiting in a customer lounge while my car is being fixed, again and again and again. One afternoon off can cost me $10K or more so you tell me what expensive REALLY is..........
