I have been having this problem recently on 98 deville. When I'm driving around quite a bit (i.e engine is warmed up), the engine will start to stutter. then after a bit more, the engine oil light starts blinking when I am at a light. If I start driving again, the light goes off. Now when I check the oil level everything is fine, not low on oil at all. What could be the causes of the stutter? where else should I look for an oil issue? :hmm:

I do not know if the two are related or not, though I tend to think not, but the oil light is for oil pressure not oil level. Might just be a bad oil pressure switch. It is mounted on the oil filter adapter.

could this also be the cause of an oil leak?

Possible, but not probable. You'll have to search around for the oil leak.

Hell yea it can cause a leak! I had a real bad leak comin out from the oil pressure switch. I had my 99 Deville for like 3 months when that happened. It was dripping all over my garage. Went to AutoZone. New switch was like less than $20. The dealer installed it for me for free(I bought 2 previous cars from him so it was good business).

Both my 96 Concours and 2002 DHS have had to replace the oil sender unit due to oil leaks. BIG ones!

:hmm: Don't think I ever recall anyone saying that before. Guess I stand somewhat corrected, though I still don't think it is too common.

Ok I bought the oil sending unit, now where is located? Do I have to to remove the oil before changing it out? Thanks for your help!

It's up on the oil filter adapter. You only need to remove the filter.

Is an Oil Pressure Switch the same thing as an Oil Sending Unit ?

Are they both one in the same component
