Labor day Sept.5th 2005 while taking a ride to my friends party, riding on the Bethpage State Pkway in 6th gear at about 60 mph,I thought I heard a Whine.

On Wednesday Sept.7th I brought my CTS-V to the dealer for some service and mentioned to him I heard a whine,we took a drive together on the same Pkway and he heard the whine. Back at the dealership he ordered a new rear and related parts. Friday Sept.9th I was called and told the parts were in. This coming Wednesday they will install them, Just one week from when I told them I heard a whine.
Let me say this, I think this is great service,I only have 1,028 miles on the car.

Great post.

Two things though.

#1 - CTS-V rear differentials do not have any issues and certainly do not fail within their first 1,500 miles of service.

#2 If said rear differential did ever fail this is EXACTLY how a dealership's service center should act.

Doc170,
Who's your dealer? I'm in Valley Stream and like my service dept (Lynbrook), its the Distric Service guy...Pat Dubay..that you need to watch out for. Not many miles for the diff to whine, but it happens.
What color? I'll keep an eye out for you...

Really. Read his sig, I think he's up to his third diff.

He could have also added that the CTS-V does NOT have limited slip (at least his dealer told him that!). LOL

Yep, and whatever you do, do not add any fluids either, this is strictly an air cooled unit!

So anyone know if he will get a new time bomb or the beefed 06 rear?

I would think time bomb for another couple of months. The 05 stock needs to run out.

1000 miles sounds like mine. Did they hint at inproper break in, IE abuse? My dealer has been pretty good.

Doc,
Sarant in Farmingdale...nice building, never been there though. I used to work for Citibank in Farm-Melville area, now in NYC for StateBank.

The rears busting are all Vs...I'm on number 2 at 4500miles, no dragracing..no burnouts...

Lay low with the mods until the new diff comes out in 06, leave the whining diff in as long as you can.

I'm also blackonblack, see you around...

Mine whined from 3100 to over 14K before it busted, but I still believe the kit kept it from disintegrating sooner.
