I am half way done with the trans service and when I got the pan off I saw something odd. I saw what looked like a piece of one of the shop towels that you buy at Sams stuck to the magnet. My question is, inside the tranny anywhere is there a Fiber (lack of anything better to call it) material anywhere. One of the strange things is it stuck to the magnet and didn't tear apart like paper it tore apart like fiber or sos pad. My mom bought this car new and I know the tranny has never been opened up before. There was some small metal particles in there but nothing to alarming. My best guess is it must be a part of the clutches inside the tranny. Comments please guys, I am a little dissappointed about my findings.

The only thing close to fiberous is the two pick up screens as far as I know of.

It definately wasn't the screens. It stuck to the magnet so it was metallic.

I've never seen clutches go fiberous. Can you take a picture of it?

To late to take a picture. I tore it up to try to determine what it was. It was about a quarter of the size of the magnet.

The mesh screens inside the filters might be what it was???

Grayslake is just down the road a piece. I spent my younger years in Chitown as well.

I live in Downers Grove now, used to live in Bloomington, which is about 45 minutes from Peoria. Downers is nice but the cost of living is too high.

Whats up 98.. happened to me. The stuff has me pretty worried...the only difference I see is that yours tore apart like a SOS pad, mine looked like a SOS pad but when you smushed it with ur fingers it broke apart easily, and was kinda mushy. The guy said he found that stuff on the filter not the magnet.
