I was checking for codes the other day, and i got a P039 History code. Now I know that the code has something to do with Torque Converter Clutch (VCC) Engagement, but what exactly does this mean?
Thanks in advance.
To check VCC drive at some constant 50 mph and with your right foot on gas pedal touch the brake pedal with your left foot slightly to engage the brake switch. Watch RPM on DIC it should jump some 100-200 rpm. If it happens your VCC works properly.

hey adalla, so i did what you said and my rpm's did jump a little. so what is the code being thrown for?
thanks.
So, there is nothing to worry about. Clear the code. How's your ATF level, condition?

Yes, it is usually recommended to replace the filter and the pan gasket. Do not let anyone to flash the tranny, just drain, clean the pan, magnet and refill with Dexron III. I have recently bought a kit (filter, gasket) from NAPA. It was good. You do not need to change ATF if it does not have a burnt odor though.
