Just picked up an 84 GMC 3/4 ton truck for a work truck...about every two hundred miles, the oil filter vibrates loose about a quarter turn and starts pouring oil on the ground...Is there any tricks that a Dodge man wouldn't know about these SBC's, or should I just put it on with a damned wrench and curse myself for overtightening it when I change the oil next? Thanks a bunch, ya'll!

Is there a rubber gasket off an old filter stuck up in the filter mount? Sometimes they come unglued and don't come off with the filter. Some engines like my MBZ have o-rings that are separate from the filter.
Yea...I kinda think that's what's happened, I just havn't wanted to pull the filter and dump oil on my driveway, even though every time it leaks that's where it ends up...the truck sat for a few years, so that's probably exactly what it is...I just havn't had the ambition to go pull the filter off and clean the surface and stick it back together. :)

Are you sure you have the correct filter?
