I have a 1995 STS with some nice 20's on it but the two things that bother me are that one the tires are getting bald on the outside cause it looks like the rims bow out alittle and the other is that the gap is alot bigger in the front and the back sits nice already. What can I do to lower it an inch or a half inch without losing the nice ride and not messing anything up. Please let me know.
Thanks

What can I do to lower it an inch or a half inch without losing the nice ride . . . .
My carefully considered best guess would be . . . . nothing! The 20s come with a price; you've paid it.

well maybe 22's will solve the problem. I just don't understand the ware on the outside of the tires in the front

Mr. Gasket makes coil clamps for around $12 set.

DO those coil clamps really work?????? I don't mind losing a litlle ride if it works

Yes, they work. They are designed exactly for that purpose. If you want to keep it simple, that is the way to go.

You should be able to find it at Mr. Gasket's website. I ran across it the other day. I know it is there. Also, check your local parts store.

Your other option are Eibach springs. You will spend at least two bills on them new. Also, you will need tools to r&r the struts. Don't forget the alignment.

You can either cut about 1 turn off the spring. (might experiment with 1/2 turn first) or get new springs. Clamps won't give the same ride as cutting but will be close. Since you're leaving the same spring in the chances of bottoming get greater than if you changed to a slightly heavier spring. You have to go to a heavier spring as it gets shorter (to keep from bottoming) so the ride gets stiffer.

No way in hell would I cut the front springs on the 97. Should one full coil be cut from the bottom, the end will slide around like a smacked ass. If you look at the bottom base of strut where the coil sits, there is nothing to hold the cut end from moving. It is a flat base. The diameter of that cut end is much larger than what was removed.

You can cut a coil from the top. The upper strut plate does have an indent where the cut end can sit. Again, however, the cut end is not a full wrap like what was removed. It too can slide around like a smacked ass.

Dude, just buy the clamps. Too easy. Gravy.
