or will their reputation as an oil burning car live on? mccombie_5 09-05-05, 05:29 PM It looks good. All thats really keeping Mitsu open is its Lancer It looks good. All thats really keeping Mitsu open is its Lancer
Oh, and btw, we do have EVOs' here. They just started selling Standard Lancers in the UK again
they stopped and just sold the Evo for years I sat in a new black GT, very comfortable, and you feel as though you are in a fighter jet. I will be testdriving soon... ben72227 09-05-05, 06:48 PM NO, because while it looks nice and updated, the Honda Civic looks even better or just as good, and you know it will be much more reliable than the Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi is just like Saturn - they have had no real good vehicles for the past how many years? Even if they do have something decent, chances are, that Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Mazda has something much much better. I don't know man, I kinda like the styling of the new Eclipse.....I'll have to see how much of an "egg" the Civic looks like in person. :lildevil: :shhh:
I'm sure the Honda will be more reliable.... Question, does Mitsubishi have a long list of factory performance parts like Honda?? If so, I think it will make a huge impact.... HotRodSaint 09-05-05, 06:56 PM Sporty car's don't save companies. Sedans do.
Mitsubishi needs a smash hit with it's next generation Galant. A name change might help too. mccombie_5 09-05-05, 06:59 PM Sporty car's don't save companies. Sedans do.

Sedans used to
Now small cars do. Sporty car's don't save companies. Sedans do.

I disagree. The killing of the Trans Am/Camaro hit those divisions pretty hard, (for example-sporty cars) and hurt their profits/reputations. Now the Mustang is the dominator in that niche for the profits. While sedans may appeal to many families and many in general, Mitsubishi is trying hard to be more competitive with the younger crowd by obviously offering something with some balls and fresh styling with this car.
It may very well have an impact. Time will tell.
The new Galant is already a good looking car, but the interior seems to leave something to be desired. I've noticed they are close in pricing to an Accord, and they need to offer the Galant at a lower price to build up their reputation as a bargain in that class first, and then improve from there... God, that Eclipse is ugly!
The Galant is awkward too with its big roman nose. However, reviews of the Galant are quite favorable. I sat in one recently and that thing is HUGE and incredibly comfortable. I wish the interior wasn't so wannabe high-tech. It just comes across as cheap. Its looks will limit its appeal, which is unfortunate, because it seems like a great car.
Maybe upcoming Chrysler products based on the Galant platform will offer the same drive with nicer sheetmetal and more conventional interiors. mccombie_5 09-05-05, 07:05 PM I disagree. A car needs just one thing to sell
If you can make something with it your a genious.
X-Factor Sporty car's don't save companies. Sedans do.
The new Mustang has gone a LONG way to help Ford, besides their trucks, the Mustang helps keep them afloat.
Again, I disagree. HotRodSaint 09-05-05, 07:12 PM I disagree. The killing of the Trans Am/Camaro hit those divisions pretty hard, (for example-sporty cars) and hurt their profits/reputations.
I'd argue that the last generation Camaro hurt their reputation with many import buyers, and that slow sales is the reason they cut them.
Now the Mustang is the dominator in that niche for the profits.
And Ford is none the better for it. Their sedan, the Five Hundred, seems to have been a flop.
So while they have two good sporty car's, the GT and the Mustang, they have no desirable sedans. And so it is that their recovery is no where in sight. Ford is expecting to produce something like 75,000 Mustangs, which is incredible for a sports car. Still, the Accord and Camry sell in excess of 300,000 units per year.
Honestly, trucks save companies, at least in America. I'd argue that the last generation Camaro hurt their reputation with many import buyers, and that slow sales is the reason they cut them.

I would say that the last Camaro was a very good car, but it simply became too pricy compared to a Mustang GT, and that helped contribute to its demise in a big way. The Mustang was always cheaper.
I tend to agree with your second point, although Mustang is a fair portion of their profits nonetheless. HotRodSaint 09-05-05, 07:17 PM Honestly, trucks save companies, at least in America.
Which is why GM and Ford are in trouble. They concentrated all their effort on trucks, and let the sedan market go to the Japanese. Even the segment leader Ford with it's Taurus, waited too long to update it's sedan with a medicore example. mccombie_5 09-05-05, 07:21 PM Ford have no desirable saloons here either. THe Mondeo is good but there are too many. The last big saloon they had was the Granada/Scorpio and they stopped them in about 2000
They need desirability both sides of the pond Stoneage_Caddy 09-05-05, 07:33 PM i find the new eclipse very attractive ....but i hate the new drivetrain and i hate the contuniued bloat of what the car once was ....
like all great living things , when the eclipse died it bloated up in the hot sun ...
take the new body design and shrink it back down to 1990 levels , then toss the evo drivetrain in it and youll have something ...
speaking of Galants , i almost bought a 91 VR4 as a second car ....once again i didint have room for it ....im fixing that soon and buying a 4cyl fiero for a commuter car I think Ford would be wise to bring the Mondeo (the -real- Mondeo, not a watered-down version) over to the US. I love the way that car looks, and I bet its a hoot in the twisties. mccombie_5 09-05-05, 08:10 PM I think Ford would be wise to bring the Mondeo (the -real- Mondeo, not a watered-down version) over to the US. ITs a great car
The ST220 is fantastic
THe problem is, there are too many of them ont he roads here for it to be desirable
It would be nice to see it over there, but a real one, no silly engines like in the contour Jesda!!! Now that's an avatar! who is she?? Dagmar will be VERY disappointed! :mad2: Stacy Keibler. She's a WWE chick. She's also on the cover of one of my magazines and came up in a Google image search today for "bubble". I normally don't like girls that are 'super fit', as I tend to favor the jiggle and the wiggle. It sucks because I almost always end up dating athletes. Lame.
Stacy makes up for her lack of bodyfat by being insanely cute.

That can be a problem if they get too athletic, LOL. (just her arms, and they are bigger than ours!) ;) mccombie_5 09-05-05, 08:55 PM That can be a problem if they get too athletic, LOL. (just her arms, and they are bigger than ours!) ;)
Speak for yourself :p The worst one was a tennis player five years ago. I was 18, she was 16. She was six feet tall, had long arms, a long neck, long legs, long everything. She was muscular and slim, but when it came time to cuddle or fool around it felt like I was hugging a freaking tree. We still keep in touch (she called me out of the blue this summer) but it was doomed from the beginning.
Then there was a gymnast, a soccer chick, and in 2003 there was yet another soccer player:

She wanted me to move to Arizona where she had an athletic scholarship. I wanted to move back to St Louis, so that was the end of that. Flat muscular abs, but I generally prefer a little "pooch" in the middle. She had no such thing.
My best memories are of a non-athletic 5'1" girl with small lovehandles and a big bonnet and boot to match. Those were good times. She was freaking nuts, but oh man, good times. After we split, she married a friend of mine and developed an eating disorder. She looked hideous.
Bodyfat -> Fertility -> Sexy

And you let her get away!!! My GOD man, she probably drives a new Eclipse by now!!! :tisk: ;) God, that Eclipse is ugly!
i have been saying that since i saw the first commercial with it. it is the ugliest looking thing i have ever seen... well one of the ugliest anyway. ben72227 09-05-05, 11:02 PM Mitsubishi will never be a great car company, because they market to young people - young people who can't make their car payments:D on time or in some cases, at all.
HRS was right, sedans are what makes a company succesful - the Camry is what makes Toyota, Accord for Honda, Altima for Nissan, Impala for Chevy, etc.
The sports cars make companies "hip" (Camaro, 350Z, Skyline, Camaro, etc.) but its the family sedans that provide all the money. Trucks/SUVS are important in America too, but they aren't too hot right now with gas prices what they are... Which is why a car company offers smaller cars, sporty or not, to pick up the slack due to lack of sales from larger vehicles in times like this.......
I still want to know what the aftermarket is for Mitsu, and the factory performance parts list.....if it's as good as Hondas'.... ben72227 09-05-05, 11:10 PM Which is why a car company offers smaller cars, sporty or not, to pick up the slack due to lack of sales from larger vehicles in times like this.......
Exactly. Unfortunately, small cars is one area where GM is behind. You know how I feel about the Ion, and the Cobalt, while an improvement over the Cavalier, is still no match for the Civic or Mazda3. GM really needs to be the market leader in this segment, because these are the 1st cars that people ever buy. When they get families, they go up for the big sedans. So if you can hook 'em when they're young, you'll have them for life. I dont really understand the continued popularity of the Civic. Its gotten big and flabby with every passing generation. Build quality has declined to a point where you can see uneven colors in the paint. The door panels now feel hollow and flimsy.
On the other hand, the Cobalt, which I drove, is quite a smooth little car with a good interior and solid chassis. The Ecotec gets raspy at times but in typical driving the noises are adequately smothered. The Mazda3, which I have not driven, is supposed to be quite amazing for its class. You know how I feel about the Ion
How can I forget, you won't let me. :bomb: :shhh: The Ecotec gets raspy at times but in typical driving the noises are adequately smothered.
The Mazda3, which I have not driven, is supposed to be quite amazing for its class.
The Ecotec I drove in the Saturn Ion was quiet until you really stepped on it, and I wouldn't expect anything different from a 4 banger. Typically, they are all a bit buzzy, even the Dodge SX I drove too. (even at idle for the Dodge) I like a little noise of power once in a while. (and it moved quite good!)
Perhaps Mazda uses more sound deadening materials in the construction of the cabin to reduce engine noise, etc... ben72227 09-06-05, 12:54 AM The Mazdas are just good cars in general. They've were designed from the ground up to be the best "compact" car, but isn't the Cobalt design a bit old? Is it not a rebadged Opel or am I thinking of something else... I don't like most foreign cars. Pertaining to the Japanese, I've always
been partial to Mitsubishi & Mazda because they always seemed to be
the underdogs. The "Me Toos" ~ My favorites go back a ways to the
Mazda 929 in its last design and the Mitsubishi Diamante. Two very exceptionally designed cars with great looks.
That said....
Give me a Caddy or a Lincoln or a Mustang GT Convertible,
or a Bonneville GXT for 2005. If someone confused my STS for a mitsubishi Galant. Id say yes. :( | |
