I just recently purchased a 1991 Sedan DeVille, the check engine light was on but otherwise everything but the A/C looks and runs perfect...with 2 exceptions: When I put it in drive and take my foot off the brake it doesnt move and when it does move it's at a snails pace (and when I'm driving the engine feels like it has as much power as my old 4-cylinder ford escort), and secondly, it had been dying at random and even more so since I had it smogged...can anybody tell me whats wrong?

Not without a lot more info.

For starters, what code is causing the check engine light?

They didn't put Northstars in '91s, so you'd probably be better off figuring out which engine is in it and posting this in the forum for that vehicle/engine. You'll need to be prepared to answer other questions, such as what are the RPMs at idle and which codes are stored in the computer. An auto parts store might be able to get the codes for you, or there is probably a way to get them from your dashboard. Try holding down the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate module and be prepared to write down some Pxxx codes.

I just took it to the shop and they told me I have a power stering swith problem, the first gear in my transmission has been burnt up, and the 2 hydraulic engine mounts are busted...and your right it's not a northstar engine, the guy at the lube shop informed me wrong when I took it for an oil change but my new mechanic is a Cadillac Specialist (he worked for the Cadillac dealership as garge manager for 10 years) so he'll be able to fix it. Thanxs for correcting my mistaken engine description..I haven't even been Caddy owner for a week yet but I know this car is gonna be my hobby for years to come.
