I don't know off the top of my head anyone who's done headers in the FWD Eldo so you probably don't have others' experiances to go on. terrible one 08-29-05, 07:16 PM Yeah, I know it will/would be really tough, but the engine is going to be pretty pepped up. I guess the car is kind of going to be a sleeper. KB hyp pistons, comp cam, totally rebuilt heads, megasquirt EFI setup, etc etc...pretty much just a high performance street rebuild. I think the goal is around 450-75 horses. I'm sure the stock manifolds would cut it but if it could be done I think that headers would be better because 1) they are headers and 2) I still have to find and buy another manifold to replace the cracked one, then send them off to Jet Hot to get ceramic coated. I know that the usual deal is to find some headers that will work and use the cadillac flanges... If anyone can help me out or at least point me in the right direction here it would be greatly appreciated. davesdeville 08-29-05, 08:32 PM You could try asking Flash/CMD, MTS, Potter, or Torque Inc and see what they have to say. terrible one 08-29-05, 09:07 PM Alright, good idea. TorqueInc 08-30-05, 01:42 AM I think MTS or cadcompany sells headers for the eldorado I would advise you to put your hopped up engine in something else as they FWD platform is pretty fragile and heavy for performance applications. good luck in your search..TI terrible one 08-30-05, 08:25 AM Yeah, I'm looking into it. I know that the 76 ElDo isn't the body for a performance engine, but the engine is still on the mild side...performance is what the Charger is for :) This project started when my grandfather willed me teh car when he died, and I decided to fix it up. Turned out it needed a complete restoration, so I'm giving it one. This is only because it has so much sentimental value. I think that after the beef up/rebuild the transmission ought to be able to handle it. Thanks terrible one 08-30-05, 05:11 PM Well Al shot me back an e-mail, so what I think I am going to do is buy a set of Cadillac flanges to fit the 500 from him at MTS, then take it to a machine shop and see if we can't make something work. Try http://www.sandersonheaders.com. lux hauler 09-27-05, 05:27 AM Cad Co. advertises a set of headers for the Eldo. lux hauler 09-27-05, 05:31 AM Sanderson makes a set of block hugger headers that might work for you. Try http://www.sandersonheaders.com. As far as I know, all of their Cadillac big block headers are for rear wheel drive. I don't think they have a front wheel drive set up that'll work in an Eldo. RanzeD 09-27-05, 10:53 AM Thanks for the info - they didnt mention the FWD issue when I talked to them, although I didnt specifically ask about that. I had a stock 76 Eldo Convertible that went through CV joints like crazy. 79 and later FWD cads have the superboot, but 67-76 have the first gen final drive that used the old CV boots which suck. Once the integrity is compromised, stuff gets in there and the CV joint takes it on the chin. Although it is cool not to have the drive shaft hump in the car, I'd stick with RWD on an engine that big or update the final drive and suspension to handle it. BTW, there is a thread on FWD motorhomes in this forum, but a conversion of that magnitude sounds like a PITA. Just as an aside, even souped up, I'm not sure the car would be much of a sleeper anyway. My stock Eldo Convertible was a favorite target for local cops even when I was barely speeding. Of course, it was red. People, even ricer drivers, know the land yachts have big engines and can move with the hammer down. When my 68 convertible rolled into my driveway for the first time, last fall, a 10 year old kid with a banana seat on his bike asked me if it had a 500 in it. I had to explain him the whole 472 thing. Just my 2 cents. terrible one 09-27-05, 06:09 PM Woah old post resurrected lol | |
