10W30 an all round performance oil
5W30 or 0W30 more geared for mid to nothern use
20W50 to heavy wouldn't even consider it for the V

Yes I have. There are two schools of thought. Thinner is better and thicker is better. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com More info than you can imagine there. Lots of guys are using German made Castrol 0W30 wt in the LS based engines. Although I have primarily used 10W30 after studing the site mentioned above I am going to stick to 5W30 even though I live in the south. Seems to offer a little better start up protection.

The only thing I don't like about Amsoil is the multi-level marketing scheme. I think the best oil available is Redline but Mobil 1 is fast closing the gap with the new EP series.

there's a certain vendor here who sells really kick butt tunes and FRCs and FFVs and all that stuff *wink* who is an Amsoil dealer :)

The last couple of times I was driving aggressively in the heat my oil would overheat. When I brought my car in for service they started using 10w30. Hopefully it wont' do it anymore. The service advisor told me it is a common thing on the Vs.

My 'friend' is going to a racing school tomorrow. He has 2500 miles on the original oil. Should he put in 10w30 for the track then?

I went with my gut and put in 6.5qt's of mobil's finest 10w30...did some pretty fun driving last night:burn: . It was the first time I took her over 4000rpm, still haven't gone to RL yet - but soon. Just a little nervous she's not ready.

The only thing i noticed was the oil pressure fluctuating a little more than usual (she does only have 1500 miles on her - not much history). Bouncing from 36-51 psi.

BTW, as this was her first change, there was a lot of shavings on the drain plug - i'm wondering how much she is still shreading?:hmm:

oh yeah....she'll have lots of metal on the plug for a time. change her again at 5K and they'll be alot less.
