I love the way the wheels look, but should they ride so bad? They seem to get a little loud at around 48mph and don't ride quite as smooth. Is this normal for such big wheels and tires, or could they be out of balance? Could it just be cheap tires? Any suggestions before I take it to the shop? Tires are Carbon Series 305/30r/26. Not my first selection, but all they had for a reasonable price.
That's what I/m wondering. But when reviewing them, a lot of people actually said they rode fine. I expect some noise, but it just doesn't have a Cadillac feel to it anymore.
We make custom wheels and larger wheels can do that for several reasons, tires make a huge difference, cheaper tires are cheaper for a reason, balancing is VERY important, just because they have a road force balancing machine does not mean that know how to use it, some shops are just better than others. When I had 26's on my 10' and 12' I used Pirelli scorpion's, they are not cheap, but they road the best of any 26" tire I have ever tested.
Yeah, I looked at the Perellis, cheapest I could find them were 2k a set. Ill either put them or Nittos on it after these. So maybe there is a balancing issue with them? Another question...should I have the truck programmed for the larger wheels and tires?
I will chime in on this. I have had 3 sets of 6's between my 07 Tahoe and the 10 Escalade. I had carbon series tires on my last set of 6's for less then a year and they wouldn't balance for crap. I have tried to get the balanced and never would get right and that was from a well known shop. Also they are loud tires. But I liked them because they had the XL load rating. I had Nitto 420's which are not XL load rating before these on my other two sets of 6's but after not even half the tread was gone 3 of the 4 tires blew the steal bands in the side walls so had huge bubbles coming out of the side wall. Because the truck was to heavy for the tires. So now I am on my new set of 6's with Lexani tires. Right now they ride great balance is well on them and they are not loud. These also have a XL load rating.
The answer I hear from anyone with 20+ wheels is yes, you are never going to get a good ride quality out of a wheel that large. From my experiences you almost have to expect that you're going to sacrifice a nice, comfortable ride when you opt to put such large wheels on a vehicle.
You can get the wheels balanced, but depending on where you live and drive 24's and 26's can really ride like crap, if you are in the northeast where the roads are still littered with pot holes large wheels can be bone jarring
Thanks for the info Blackedoutlt3, I will def remember that when I go to add new tires to it. I have looked at the Lexanis, but they weren't available when I purchased my wheels. Danniboi, mine came with factory 22s, and they rode amazing. So actually some 20+" wheels can actually have a smooth ride. Had 22s on my old Silverado, and they were better than factory as well. I feared it may be the tires, but I wanted other peoples opinion on the matter.
I have to say mine is really not "that" bad for being lowered on 26's. My 07 tahoe lowered on 6's was really rough. But I think this MRC has really helped the ride. I also live in the North East and also travel a bunch to our Poconos lake house a lot during the summer and winter with the 6's on and have to say feels fine.
Lol I'm worried about my new 22's riding like crap. 26's would drive me crazy. I had 20's on until Saturday. I've got 285-45/22 Hankook Ventus ST RH06. Extremely quiet tire. This is my first experience with anything over 20. These 22's are more harsh over bridge joints, pot holes. I expected that. What I'm worried about is the shake in my steering wheel at interstate speeds. It's intermittent. I would think if it was a balance issue shouldn't it be constant?
