The other day I got in my 70 DeVille (It was at night) and started her up and turned on my lights. Well the headlights came on but I didnt have any instrument panel lights. I messed with the knob on the light control and nada. I have my blinkers, ashtray light, my bright indicator, but I dont have the main lights that control the over-all panel. So now I cant see how fast Im going etc.

I pulled the fuse for the instrument panel and the filiment still seems intact. I have the service manual and it said if the fuse appeared to be good to replace the bulb, so I pulled the dash cover thinking that there was just one main bulb to replace, well a whole bunch of small bulbs line the panel.

My question is has anyone else had this happen in their 70' Caddys or have a solution for me. What would cause all of the lights to go out at once? Did I check the wrong fuse? Or does this sound like a wiring problem?

Thanks for the help.

It might be the headlight switch, that is where I would start looking being you checked fuses already.

maybe previous owner was too lazy to change them....and they dead in longer period?

They all went dead at the same time....one day all of them were working....the next day they were not.

Then N0DIH is in the right path, i think.

Replace the switch. Used to have problems on the 85 Pari where the headlights would sometimes come on, and sometimes not. Replaced the switch, same problem. Checked everything else, replaced the 2nd switch. 3 time lucky. On the first two switches I could move the pull-out knob a little up or down and it would make the instrument panel lights go out or on. It's gotta be the switch.
