Has anyone ever installed an aftermarket cd player themselves and if so, what did you do with the wiring harness?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.....Thank you

I had to buy a special harness that's 17' long. It plugs into the amp in the trunk and then runs to the CD Player. I then had to run new speaker wire from the CD player to the speakers. The factory speakers have a built in amp on them and sound like shit with an aftermarket deck so you'll probably wanna replace them.

Yeah I've done it on mine. You should know that when you take the factory deck out, you car stops doing certain things. Like when you leave your turn signal on, it doesn' chime, If you leave your keys in the car it doesn't chime, If you leave your headlights it doesn't chime and it doesn't automatically turn them off anymore. Also once you get in there in order to make the deck fit you have to break this peice of plastic behind it to get it to fit. If I had to do it over I'd of tried to put the deck somewhere else. I originally wanted it in the glove compartment but its ridiculously small, and a lot of work. And no one makes an actual kit for it so you I took a same year eldorado kit and drilled new holes and broke certain brackets.

lacmang - i have aftermarket CD player too (installed by previous owner) and original deck is not attached, but all chimes and dings works as should be, also no trouble with headlights. Maybe you disconnected some wrong wires?

lacmang, you did somthing wrong. The chimes have nothing to do with the radio. You will have to break thr plastic behind the radio to get it to fit right, but thats very easy to do. Do a search for radio in this section i'm sure you'll find some answers. I used an american international install part# gmk-420 and there wiring harness as well for the newer gm plug I don't remember the number. The radio in your car is actually a 2 piece radio. The second piece is located in the right rear 1/4 panel behind the carpet next to the antenna. This is where all your speaker connections are and power connections are also. This is where you would use the adapter wiring harness to plug into your factory harness at this point. Your basically gonna want to run all your speaker and power wires from the back of your new radio to the right rear 1/4. Your gonna need to run an antenna cable also.

All my chimes work as well. I was having a problem with a certain fuse blowing and when it happened, everything worked except the chimes....might be something to check out.

thanks guys, I guess thats what I get for letting my friend install my stereo, I don't know how I'm going to fix this I'm really not mechanically inclined. If it wasn't for ya'll I'd still think it was just cuz I took the factory deck out.
