Boycotting the gas company will decrease the price dramatically. Ive checked into it and if over half the US didnt buy gas for 1 day, the gas companys would be close to bankrupcy!!! So Lets show them how to lower gas prices. So repost this to all your friends. We have to get the word out. Its NATIONAL DONT buy gas DAY!!!

not a chance.....c'mon get serious, these companies don't operate so pathetically that a small change in end market on one day would almost bankrupt them.....don't believe the hype!

This came up two or three years ago, somebody ran all the numbers and it just doesn't work out. It's spam that runs every time the gas prices go up.

The only thing that might have an impact is if everyone decided not to drive for a week, or if everyone figured out a way to cut 500 miles out of their monthly errand running.

How about if everyone carpooled?

It WILL work. And Bill Gates will give you $1.00 for every person you forward that email to. I have a friend who's a lawyer and he said he will personally file a class action lawsuit against George Bush if it doesn't work. My buddy forwarded it to 100 people and the very next week he got a check for $100 in the mail (we don't know how Bill Gates got his address though). ;)

I wish the problem was this simple. It would be great if it were.

The price of crude oil is largely based on supply and demand on a global scale and geopolitical events. These factors--coupled with refining capacity and transportation infrastructure--drive the cost of gasoline.

If it makes you feel any better, the cost of gasoline is still much cheaper in the US compared to anywhere else...

Well... except for the middle east where its like 5 cents a gallon and they practically swim in it.

I cut this from a web site.

This chart is from CNN's website. Gas prices around the world (in US dollars per gallon):

Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

Conspiracy theorists.

Straight from an Oliver Stone, Hollywood movie script.

Targeting Exxon Mobil is really dumb. First of all, it could hurt many American workers. Second, they're not the reason why gas is so expensive. Idiots.

Europe has much higher gas taxes, which are used to provide the BEST public transportation in the world. Try riding public transportation in this country:lildevil:

Iraq has 5 cent gas due to their gov't paying a subsidy on gasoline. If only our gov't would do that...

What REALLY blows my mind though is how diesel has become MORE expensive than gasoline. That's never happened before. Diesel costs much less to refine than gas and should be cheaper, which leads me to believe that they are price gauging...

It would work, but the problem is that it would take a couple or a few days. This worked in France a few years ago and people literally stopped on the freeways and REFUSED to purchase fuel! They lowered the prices of gas in a matter of a few days (if I recall) because the trucking industries couldn't afford the increases and they got fed up.

A lot of you like to knock the French, but I'll tell you, they don't put up with some of the crap we do! They got tough and it worked! People have to commit to it.

If this was organized on a mass level it certainly could work IMO because the oil companies need a little knock off their throne once in a while to keep it real..

this is a bunch of bullshit

the way to do it is to buy from only 1 station, like 76 or something so that the others have to no choice but to lower

however it will never happen cuz information will never get spread to everyone

GLIA though...

Yeah, since we get about 10% of our oil from Venezuela, things could get even worse. I mean, they already didn't like us, but since Pat Robertson put a hit out on Hugo Chavez, they ABSOLUTELY despise us now! And since India and China want oil too, Venezuela could just sell it all to them...

Dumb TV evangalists...

None of that stuff will work, if you have a "no gas" day, well, people will just buy the same gas the day after. And besides, part of it is due to speculation. For example, the price went up today because of fears from Tropical Storm Katrina...

Anyway, its either going to burst soon, or just get up to about $3 and level off. I mean, ExxonMobil, Shell, and BP pretty much control the market, and if they want to charge more, then you have to pay more. Period.

Don't like it? Get a Honda:lildevil::duck:

Whoa whoa there! Hold your horses. Don't boycot gas, you will see the gas stations go out of buisiness WAY before you see the petrolium companies even notice it. I know, I work at a gas station/mechanics shop. We get a shipment once a week so if you want the petrolium companies to see their lucracy decrease then you would have to boycot untill each and every gas station doesn't need a fill up. Gas stations take about 10000 gallons of regular 5000 of super and 5000 of diesel to fill up their tanks. Once it goes into the gas station, they really don't care where it goes because they have already been paid.

No offense this is America I could give a sh** how much these other countries want to pay for gas !!! I want our gas prices lower back down. If the greedy bast***'s would reduce the taxes on gas during this time we might stand a chance. These companies are just price gouging and thats the bottom line.
Peace :rant2:
