Coach builders limited brought a 2005 Deville Convertible to us today at work to look at. We have all seen pics of these cars before but this year they have made 1 modification that some of you will like. No more basket handle. Its a nice looking car and it built pretty well considering what it started life as. Me and "Larry Moran" talked for awhile on how a deville becomes a deville vert , surpisingly there is no X frame under it. But there is longitiudial steel bars uner it to combat what sounds like cowl flex. The devilles are much stiffer than the eldorado verts he used to build . I asked why it was , and it appears that the eldos were prone to flex and cowl shake issues due to the very long heavy doors shifting there weight on the firewall.

They have a 2006 that they are working on , i cant remeber when he said we would see it.

Now that ive seen them up close they dont look like there the hack job i thought they were

At any rate here are some pictures of the car

Very nice! It looks much better without the big handle. How much do they run?

Thats nice!

I still wouldnt decapitate a car, but it does look very good, only, i dont think any convertible should have four doors :)

i think it looks good with four doors ive seen lotsa old skool lincolns that have been made convertible,

as far as decapitating, i wouldnt do it to i car i had, but if someone did it before i bought it, and were og's in the game and could basically back up their work, then id be on it in a minute.

Hmmm maybe
im big on design, and i think there are very few things you can change from the originaly design and keep it a good piece of deseign.

They (old Continentals) were made that way from the factory. They had suicide doors, too, which would be cool on that Deville.

Looks nice!

I wonder how well the top works though......in a car wash or driving on freeway etc.

It'll be a nice car to own as #3 or 4 in your stable.

I was told around $70,000

$55,000 for the car & $ 15,000 for the conversion.

That's a sweet looking Deville. I wouldn't mind having that in my parking space right now. Thanks for the pics Stoney.

Thats steep...I wonder if you could just buy a new deville through carsdirect.com and then have them modify it (I saw a new 05 for way under 40K)

I don't think so because I am under the impression that Cadillac has a special order code for them and that code deletes certain items unwanted for conversion saving coach builder limited time & expense. I think they take delivery at the Caddy dealer closest to their plant. I am in N.J. and I looked into buying one of their Riviera Converts (best looking car they ever did). It's a complex buying process. You order car from local dealer, but ship to dealer nearest Coach Builders. They take possession of delivery (for you) after you send them the $$$$$$ Then when shes all done, you send them the conversion $$$$ and then they hire a enclosed transport to deliver it to your door, and you then pay the driver, before he unloads it for the transport.
