Hi I'm new to Cadillac's and this forum. I just bought a beautiful 96 off a wholesale lot and have found several problems. I have a leak I can't find from the 'middle' of the motor to the ground underneath, but can't see where it originates from or catch it doing it. The hoses look good and I don't see anything from the topside, it has 70M on the clock.

Also what do they normally run temperature wise, mine is 199 to 205. (south Florida) and in traffic hits 222 with both fans on.
thank you, I really need pointers to pinpoint this. Somebody mentioned the purge tank line I saw here.

Your running temps are normal. The purge line is to purge air from the cooling system and put it in the surge tank. Have you identified what type of fluid the leak is? Are you sure it is not condensate from the A/C system?

Check the housing on the water pump. I was leaking coolant and I found the gasket on the housing was bad and my water pump was. It isn't that bad to put a new one in your self, just getting the special tool to pull the pump was a pain. My ac condensor drips water constantly but that is towards the back passanger side.

Thanks I had to wait for hurricane Katrina to pass :duck:to reply.

Thank you both for replying, Oh it's definitely Dex-cool, on a hot day it leaves a ft. in diameter puddle on the garage floor. But somedays nothing.
To get it up on stands and hot at the same time would be hard but from underneath it seems to run off the rim of the oil-pan from somewhere above. I'm going the change the after cat O2 sensor today, I'll see if I can't better pinpoint it and closely check the pump and housing area.

I'm so far very pleased with the car it's just the pesky problems I have to nail down. Do these motors have gaskets on the heads/pump that could be the source? Or maybe rubber lines? Or the purge tank cap. It doesn't look original, it's a 15 lb. regular twist on locking cap. Maybe it is.

One question; the guy hit something bending the rims which I've changed, but the struts and shocks are blown too. I've found a complete 4 wheel change-over kit on ebay which is still 600. bucks is there anything else available that you guys know of? Thanks for helping out.

Is your middle of the motor leak actually the middle of the motor or the middle of the motor at the firewall area? I have a 97 Deville that leaked in the middle of the firewall some. Found out that the heater core hose clamps were a little loose and the foam insulation in the firewall was filling up with coolant and leaking to the ground in the middle of the firewall, several feet from the actual coolant leak. Tightened the clamps and that helped.

Thanks bubba, it was leaking at the heater core lines in the middle on the firewall side, the clamp was getting semi-loose and that fixed it. There's steel heater lines coming up from under the firewall to below the throttle body area. There are short rubber flex lines about 3 1/2" long btween the waterpump and heater lines. Thats where they dribbled. Hope this helps others.
I couldn't get the rear O2 sensor loose, I tried and tried. Couldn't get the leverage...
