Your probably better off getting a new northstar (maybe).... rebuilding is somewhat difficult....

Whats wrong with your engine.....?

But, after its all said and done, your probably look at this:
2000-2500 for tranny work, and 3000-5000 for the engine...

Im not 100% sure whats wrong with the engine yet but it sounds like i threw a rod...

Im under the impression that a new Northstar is about $8,000. Im sure buying a rebuilt engine and trans would be less then that, im just not sure exactly how much.

Im saying if you DID go for the rebuild..... But you are right, a new northstar (better idea) will be in the 8000 range....... The key is to replace anything and everything that is necessary when taking stuff of your old engine and applying it to the new short block......

You can buy a new GM Northstar " Crate Engine" from www.paceperformance.com for about $4,000, with 3 year 50,000 mile warranty
