My 1992 Cadillac Sedan DeVille has a loud rumble noise when I accelerate. It sounds like its coming from the muffler but the muffler appears to be in good shape (no holes or loose items). Has anyone experienced this problem? If so what was the cause and their course of action? Thanks Mox.

Check the dougnut gasket where the exhaust pipe attatches to the manifold.

Ranger - Good call...I took it to the shop (Rickenbaugh Cadillac, Denver, Co) a great dealership; they fixed it right up, problem solved. Thanks. Now I’m waiting on a side view mirror (driver’s side). A guy down the street knocked it off 6 days after I bought the car. Some people... At least he has Insurance. Take it easy and thanks again. I personally like when a rumble comes from my exhaust...

I also like the rumble from a V8, but this sounded like a bunch of marbles running loose in the muffler... Mox

Are you sure it's the muffler?
I have a 1993 Deville and have repalced the catalytac converter twice so far,the last time being August of 2005.
The noise was the honeycomb inside the converter comming loose and vibrating.

I'm having the same problem with my '92 sedan, I have a post up, is it a vibration between 10 and 50 MPH? A way to rule out engine, muffler and transaxle is to ride down a hill and shift it into neutral and let of the gas, the engine will go to its idle speed, then accelerate, if the noise changes between those steps then you've just narrowed it down to engine or muffler. Thats how I ruled those two out anyway. If thats the same for you then you could be having the same trouble I am, which I have narrowed down to either the CV joint, bad tires or Unbalanced wheels. I'll keep you updated on what I find out. you can look at my post "vibration in 1992 sedan deville" to see what everyone else there has to say.
