So i got my 472 back up and running. CHanged out the starter wires...ground alternator wires is messed up but i can start the car and take the keys out and will still run

Do you have HEI ignition? Check the power going to the dist. If it is hot with the ignition key in the off position, that's the prob. It should be a source that it only hot with the key in the on/run position. There is a thread in this forum that describes installing the HEI ignition that you may find helpful.

If you have stock points ignition, check the power going to the + on the coil. If that is hot all the time, same thing.
